I made a similar shot a few months ago but the cue ball was about 2' closer to the object ball.
I used low right. Very smooth power draw.
My cue ball hit closer to the side pocket, bounced about 8", made a u-turn and headed straight for the head rail.
I wasn't trying to do that, I just wanted to draw it off the side and back down close to the left corner.

If I could have any stroke I would want the one Strickland had when he was playing his best 9 Ball game. He could move the cue ball.
 
A very broad question. What do you mean by: "best stroke"?
I see people mention power, some say finesse etc. No player is complete, but some come close. I see lots of old timers being mentioned, from what I see on youtube, these guys couldn`t hold a candle, compared to todays players.
Judging by who wins, it`s obvious that the most complete players are guys like SVB, Mika Immonen, Thorsten Hohmann, Jayson Shaw and Niels Feijen.
They play great straight pool and rotation games, break good and shoot very straight, have good creativity and consistency.
Guys like Efren Reyes I`m sorry to say dont have a great stroke, but he is extremely creative and knows the rails better than anyone.
Bustamante has his own style, but mechanically he is a train wreck.
Earl Strickland is very enjoyable to watch, I like his gutsy way of playing and his long stroke is great fun to watch, but he`s a terrible ambassador for the sport, due to his temprament.
My personal favourite is Mika Immonen, he`s got just the right amount of flair to he`s play, combined with great precision and nice mechanics.
The fearlessness and precision of Jayson Shaw is also great to watch.

I know I have left out several well known players, I just mentined the ones I have watched enough to have an opinion about.
 
Has? Buddy Hall. Had? the Miz. No one can watch their strokes and not realize just how beautiful they are. Honorable mention, Ruben Bautista and Stuart Pettman, only because I'm a recent fan of the pronounced pause at the back swing...I've recently incorporated it in my stroke and I like it A LOT. Buddy Hall has a nice pause at his back swing (although he uses a rather short bridge). I don't equate "best stroke" to drawing a ball three rails...

Usually the guy at a busy pool hall who can draw the ball farthest or do the fanciest
spin shots needs weight off the better players....
...the great players have their priorities straight...keeping your opponent in his chair.
Buddy Hall played one of the sanest games I've ever seen.

I agree with Kim Bye, Efren's stroke is not in the top thousand....
....he just happens to be a genius....he got lucky. :smile:

Bustamente has to be the most confusing.

Aerodynamically, a bee looks like it can't fly....
...and Busty looks like he can't play.

But the bee flies very well....
...and Busty plays even better.


...and a great person to be around
 
Best Stroke

One of the smoothest stroke of todays players is John Morra and he will only get better.
 
Nobody mentions Rafael Martinez and Antonio Lining .
But, according to Efren, the two have very powerful strokes.

I agree, it is effortless. He is the smoothest player I have ever seen.

Shane's stroke is also noteworthy for both power and control.

I have seen Rafael pull off shots I did not know were even possible. His stroke has surprising power and accuracy.
 
If any of you guys from TX and I'm sure elsewhere, saw Gilbert Martinez play a few years back (he moved to NV) you were in for a treat. He rolled his ball with less effort than Swanee, and that's saying something.

Agreed. Rafael Martinez could put any English on the cue ball he wants with a lot of power even if the object ball is an inch away. The is a swoop stroke he does that is unbelievable.
 
Best stroke

What a short memory pool aficionados have.
Do you remember Efren Reyes????
Smooth, powerful but gentle.., magic with the cue ball.
