who invented it?

One of the first Jump/Break cues I ever saw in the late 1980's was a Mace by Rick Howard. I liked it so much I had Rick make me one and I still use it.

Here are some past threads on the same subject citing Pat Fleming

Mike Gulyassy saw Pat Fleming in 1983 using a 'jump' cue.

This link from BCA Hall of Fame induction for Pat Fleming states he was instrumental in the development of the jump cue in the early 1980s.

Bunjee, a jump cue maker also acknowledge Pat with the creation of the specialty jump cue.

The question was about a jump/break cue design...not just jump cue.

.

Actually, Herman Rambow made the HUB cue, this was

a Brunswick cue of the 1930's and this cue would break down so that you had a shorter cue and could be utilized as a break down shooter or as a jump cue.

This is who I would say got the first idea of the break down, jump cue, players cue combo.

Just my input

Jump Cues

Not sure who did what,

But, in San Diego, there was a couple pretty sporty players.
One, by the name of Billy Graves (who died in late 1990's) was pretty good with a full length jump. I have heard he and Earl wer about the same time frames.

I don't know much besides that.

Mark Griffin

The first one I ever saw in person,or even advertised was made by Joe Porper, saw the ad in a 1989 P+B magazine.

The first one I saw looked like a heavily modified K-Mart Dufferin, this was about 2 years later, and Alex Brick had it.

Later on,I saw the Huebler, and about the same time I saw the Mace. Tommy D.

Either Rick Howard or Paul Huebler invented the Break/Jump cue depending on who you ask. Paul Huebler was definitely the first modern manufacturer to bring them out.

As for anyone who says learn to kick and you will never need a jump cue........how come the Filipinos, acknowledged as the best kickers in the game, use jump cues? Seems to me that they LIKE to have the choice and having the choice they CHOOSE to jump rather than kick when they think that the jump shot is the better shot.

What makes a break cue a break cue ? I was never much of a 9 baller, always played straight pool so i never cared about any of that stuff.
Whats the difference is what i would like to know. Is the shaft thicker and absorbs the vibration better after the full force hit ? Thats about the only thing i could think of.
How about one of those graphite cues ? Wouldnt that do the job ?

Jump cues should be banned.
I'm old school I guess.
I had a guy on the next table practicing jumping the ball for a half hour. I finally told him enough. Why don't you practice cue ball control and you won't have to jump so much.

Now that you mention it, rotation games should be banned all together.

Anyway weren't the first jump sticks metal bars?

Or even any professional player who can out kick everyone on the board. And SVB is the best jumper I've seen with his regular cue and he happens to be one of the best jump cue users as well. And it's not like Shane isnt a better kicker than most other professionals.

They say Efren doesn't use a jump cue. Apparently everyone on here is Efren's speed.
