Alright, I'll come clean. It is true that I'm a double-naught spy, but I'm only a 003 1/2.
I'm not licensed to kill or make a line on poolplayers, but I know where the bodies are buried.

There is a picture of the guy, Greg Smith, in Basavich's book. Long before the book was ever written, Danny told guys about this mysterious character with the book of lines on all the players. Uncle "Big City" Smitty is a local guy who was introduced to Danny by Greg Smith according to the book and Smitty.

Iv'e come in contact with many road players through the years and have met only one with such "book" (names of players, where they play, and how much $ their good for) as discussed here. The point I would make here is that if you were the one who had spent their time to amass such a volume of valuable information would you be willing to give the book to a roadie and then maybe wait by your mailbox each month for that check thats surely going to come to cover your percentage of the winnings. Or, are you going to offer to sell the book for cold , hard cash and not have to worry if you are ever going to see or hear from that roadie again.

However, IF you read the book it states when 007 (Greg Smith) gave him a lead that would be an accurate reference. Obviously, the book doesn't tell of every gamble/hustle that Danny had over 2 years.
Greg Smith was at this years DCC. I talked with him for about 3 hours. He sits in the room very quietly & is involved in action without people even knowing it. 007 moves like a ghost. Unfortunately, Greg suffers from diabetes & self admits that he didn't take care of himself when he was younger & is now paying the price. He doesn't get out much but still knows what goes on in the pool world, especially the Midwest.
To Deadpoked- I wasn't trying to keep it a secret who Greg (007) is, just trying to get people to read the book. I found it to be a very good read and think that others should be curious enough to buy it & read it themselves. When I said it was 85% accurate, I wasn't speaking about if there was a 007 but talking about some of the escapades of Kid Delicious. I know of the stories & know that what was printed wasn't always the FULL story.

I am going by chris bartram's story to me. He spent a long time on the road with danny and has never heard of a guy giving them info. for $$$. Do you know how hard it is to get money from danny. He is tight!!!
I feel that the book was a great read whether it was accurate or not. I would like to hear from some of the others mentioned in the book, like Little John, and get thier view of how the book potrayed them.

One guy ran a ring game and grabbed 20-60 a night 4-5 nights a week, he was the 7 ball or better to the next strongest guy in the game some were the 5-7 weaker. He wouldnt ever let me play in that game, he told everyone I was just there to rob them and I was a bad guy, which was true I plaqyed better than the he did. One night agter a year he wasnt there one night and I wanted action, I offered to play for free I win I dont get paid they win they get paid, i wouldnt have lost $20 anyways I just wanted the action, they wouldnt play me-he had these guys sold only into playinh him and each other, he was the nicest guy ever to his customers, I did play in his ring game 3 years before and he knew I got alot better, he wasnt nice to me. So I started looking at other guys and its a pattern, I can name alot of guys right now that want a piece of me and they are real nice-too nice.
As far as 007 goes who knows??? I have steered champions around because they knew that I knew what was going on and they relied on me, of course I had a piece of it(i cvouldnt afford to stake them-I did jelly roll them), not staking them but just side action, right now I wouldnt steer many people around because I'm not out there enough to know, on the flip side I would go to Phoneix in the earlly 90's and get steered around, and I was never double steered once, something I'm proud of. Before the internet the rail was everything when it came to information, now days I dont know-i'm not out there. I doubt this guy had a book good enough to steer him everywhere, Jay and Billy know alot of players and would be helpful for sure, I was never 10% of what they are. But what little I did know was spot on.

I agree Danny is a very likeable and personable fellow,his personality has certainly won him a great deal of money on the road because of this.The first time i met him was in 04 when some friends pointed him out and said he was the best there at Boston Billiards in CT at a tourney,maybe it was a Joss event.They say the difference between a great hustler and a good one is that the great one everyone likes and the people are left broke and happy,taking a mark and making him like it is an art.The last time i saw Danny was in 05 when he was at the Skins and lost to Santos who won $72,000 or something like that,it was one game for all that money,it was something,they showed some of the footage from that on Nightline.When he was there i remember ESPN wouldnt let him wear a Saw II shirt to promote the movie,so the Lions Gate connection has been there for a few years,i hope it goes through for him.I think this movie could give pool a jolt it needs and transfer into millions of dollars in revenue for pool halls and billiard product sales.DeadPoked said:

chevybob20, Liljohn is from my neck of the woods so I keep my ear to the wall (internet mostly). The book is very accurate in that he plays for BIG money. This guy just likes ACTION!!! Since I have not seen him play in awhile (I'm in South West Asia) I won't comment on his speed. He has a ton of heart though.
