How do I know if a mechanic is "qualified", or trained, to upgrade the rails on my Diamond Pro?

If you mean recalibrate - get ahold of Glen 702-927-5689 (realkingcobra) for an answer.
For a standard cushion replacement try Bob Hill 434-906-5024 (mechanic/player) as he's in your area.

Thanx BB.... I'll give him a call as Glen never returned my call.

If I missed your call, I'm sorry....sometimes I wouldn't know what day of the week it is if someone didn't remind me. As far as someone that can do this kind of work up in your area....there's no one with the skills needed to perform this task at all...not in your backyard anyway. Aside from shipping the rails to someone to have this work performed and shipped back, that's about your only option, unless you want to wait until I go through your backyard, I do have some other work in that area that is on my list of things to get done...but as of right now...I can't tell you when.

Glen

Thanx Glen.... no sweat on this stuff.... I know you're a busy man. I'm not in any hurry, just beginning the homework process. I'll get hold of you when I see that you're heading through this area. In addition to my home table, I've also got a room of 14 ∆ Pros that will need the recalibration also.

Glen, you are such an ass. You have a lot of nerve saying there is no one in his area capable. For someone with a rampant ego and self promoting personality this doesn't surprise anyone who had the phone to the ear with you for more than half hour. Even if you think I am a hack, which I am most definitely not, there are atleast six others within a days drive to tackle this work. Of course most of them will be showered and on time along with doing a bangup job. Lets see...

Rob...nothing has stopped anyone from stepping up to make a post about building step cushion sub-rails for this person. Of those listed by you...which one of them lives in VA? I did mention to the OP about shipping his rails to be rebuilt....and for you to imply that I DON"T shower?...hmmmm....what a little cry baby...believe me when I tell you...you have BIG balls...behind a computer screen:rolleyes: You're looking to get banned again Rob...trust me, there's no call for these kind of personal attacks from someone like you...a hack from hell!

Are you actually making a personal attack while complaining I did the same? Is their gravity on your home world?

No, actually I'm stating the facts...from pictures of the work you've posted...you're a HACK!...so, get use to it, because that's what you are, not to mention being a thief...trying to screw over your friends for personal gain...which was one of your many biggest mistakes...or did you forget the deal over the pool tables your friends were trying to buy from a pool room going out of business...that you went behind their backs and tried to buy with a new possible room owner....so you could be a % owner. Yeah....keep talking Rob, the rope is getting tighter.

But here's some advice for you Rob....quit, while you're still able to...OK?

Rob, how hard would it have been to hop on and say where you're at and that you feel you are qualified to do the work. Don't wait for Glen to volunteer you. If you don't feel qualified, you could bring up all of the guys you mentioned without bringing all the drama into the post. Stop using this board as a way to bicker with Glen. It's getting obnoxious when every post of yours is a personal attack and has nothing to do with table mechanics.

By the way, Smooth, I've also been trained in Glen's method for recalibrating rails. I'm kind of in the same boat though...I don't know when I'll be in that area next. I did talk to Diamond yesterday though and they gave me the impression that they would be putting together some delivery runs shortly after the Derby. I don't know yet if anything will bring us your direction, but would you like me to get in contact with you if we do make it out that way?

Here's another thing for you to think about Rob...when you offer your services to someone that owns a Diamond table. Re-calibration is beyond your abilities buddy....there's a little more to it than changing the bevel of the rail...and it can't be done in your end mill....so...don't offer your services...please...I'd hate to see this Diamond get fubared by you!

Not meaning to disrespect anyone on the list of mechanic's you posted, but only Mark Gregory and Bob Deturk know for sure what to do to recalibrate the rails on a Diamond...that I'm aware of...it's not as simple as you think Rob.

Glen and I worked together on tring to figure the recalibration of the diamond table. Glen's idea to recalibrating the diamond table was a great idea...we talked on the phone for hours to get it right. I do want everyone to understand that Glen did not teach me how to fix sub-rails on any table, I've been doing rail Ext. and sub rail work long before I ever met Glen. I helped Bobby DeTurk get started in the right direction on sub rail work, and now 1 year later he is every bit as good as Glen and myself, in fact he has showed me some new things with rail work. Bobby has become one of the best with out doubt. Glen, Bobby, and myself understand the sub rail and cushion as how different cushions affect the play of the table. Glen and I figured the spec's for the diamond table, and it's not the same as Brunswick's spec's like people think. There's a lot more to the recalibration of diamond tables, for that fact every table you put cushions on needs to be
recalibrated correctly. Trust me Glen is and was a big help in working on tables for me and everyone he knows, so dont knock the guy, if anything be glad you get help from him. Glen knows who can and who can't work on rails right. All this don't put me higher than anyone else on this forum, but in time we will all understand the sub rails and cushions on how they work together better....it's not rocket science....it's just a pool table.
Hopefully we will all come together soon....real soon.

Nice post Sir.

Nice post Mark..

I think what most are missing just cutting the bevel for rubber is easy IF your rail is new and DIDNT Warp, Crown, Bow or have a twist in it. thats the 1 key In how to know how to recalibrate a rail there a many keys or facet's to correctly specing out 4 rails the same in all dimentions and to end rails to match there dimentions in every way. Now you have 3 differnet thickness rails 3-5 types of rubber each with different required angles to be achieved for optimum play. T rails snooker rails and billiard rails real mechanics know of or are learnig it fast.

rubber is rubber & wood is wood but to match them together is an art and science to make them play right.
