No offense to the others, but I'm going with Stevie. He has plenty 'o shot to win it still. And, imo, deserves it every bit as much, if not more, than some or all on your list

This is what i find interesting... would any of you on here back Oscar Dominguez to play either Rodney or Dennis?? I like Oscar, but I dont think he has played well enough for long enough to be on the team... especially when looking at the stacked european team

I would back Mr. Dominguez in the race to five format that the Mosconi Cup is contended in. Under that format any competent player can defeat any other one.

The fact is that Mr. Dominguez has done what a professional should do in that he has attended and played in the tournaments where he can earn the points to get him to the top of the list.

It is a shame to belittle Mr. Dominguez's hard work to get to the top of the rankings and secure himself a spot.

I have seen Mr. Hatch play many times over the years, even when he was a young man. He is truly championship caliber and certainly has all the skill one needs to compete at the highest level.

Mr. Morris is exceptionally talented and congenial. In my opinion he has the smoothest stroke since Buddy Hall. Of the three Mr. Morris is the only US Open winner and of the three his record of titles and high finishes eclipses the other two.

Mr. Williams has certainly distinguished himself as a promoter. His lack of titles in the pro game however and some of his actions as a promoter are not always exemplary of what a professional should be. He certainly has the requisite skill however.

In my opinion this thread should be about the relative qualifications of the three candidates and not about the qualifications of those already on the team through their hard work.

charlie williams

wasn't he born in korea? isn't his korean name Heoun Ho Kim? does anyone else see the problem with him representing the U.S.? didn't he compete for team korea in some events? with yu ram cha or something? i thought i read somewhere that he did. if so how can he be eligible? if he is allowed on the ballot we should be able to claim mika too imo. doesn't he live here most of the time? i could be wrong about this so hopefully someone will chime in and clear this up.

Good point.

Good point.

VERY good point. If Charlie Williams actually still competes at times under the Korean flag he should be inelligible to play for the USA in the Mosconi Cup. And he certainly has in the recent past played for Korea AGAINST the USA.

i thought so. i'm suprised no one has brought this up to matchroom yet.

For the money on a short race I would say Hatch. For the money on a given day in a short or long race I would say Earl. I am hearing Earl is getting ready to bring the thunder soon though.

Personally I think Earl being snubbed this year is a good thing. I feel that you may be surprised by him this year. Take it from someone living in the kingdom of Earl...the luster of the pearl will shine again.

Mr. Williams is an American. He holds an American passport and grew up in the United States. His nationality is not in question here.

If there was a Korea vs. America thing where Mr. Williams and I believe that Miss Jeanette Lee were "representing" Korea then it was a DP Productions thing and the fact that two Korean-Americans were representing Korea was merely a publicity thing on the promoter's part.

This Mosconi Cup ballot is taking some ugly turns and for me personally it is turning an otherwise fun occasion into a hateful and negative one.

i did not mean to come across a hateful or turn this into a bad thing. i do not think charlie deserves a spot on the team. i read on a site he was born in korea, has a korean name, and represented korea in pool events. am i wrong? i dont think its fair to be allowed to represent another country just because they reside there. otherwise mika should be on team usa, as i thought i read he lives in new york. or doesn't thorsten hohmann live in florida? why aint he on the ballot? he is a world champ. he was born in germany but lives here now?

how would team europe feel if they had travis trotter mass emailing and trying to get a spot on their team if he lived there? thats what i thought. i would like to see our best sent out there, especially since we have taken a beating in recent years. morris, moore, hatch, or schmidt all are better players than him. publicity stunt or not he chose to represent his home country vs mine. this is imo of course and i could be dead wrong but its how i see things. let the right person get in their for skills in pool not skills in mass emailing. have a good day :thud: oh and go U.S.A!!! no matter who gets picked i will root for our guys.

Charlie is an American. Love him or hate him he is an American citizen. Calling this into question is really spiteful unless you honestly don't know any better.

As for the all the mass emailing you should thank Matchroom for that. They set it up this way and it's bullshit. Which is why I don't understand why so many of you are going nuts over this bullshit tournament. I mean seriously it's races to five in circus-like atmosphere with all the rules dictated by the promoter. It's made for TV entertainment.

Sure it's gained some prestige and it's a cool event to win. But let's be really real here about how important it is or isn't.

I, for one, think it's completely bullshit and disrespectful of Matchroom to do this and to see these players out there begging for votes. Especially since Matchroom didn't do it to the Euro team.

Doesn't anyone see the irony in this that the whole world gets to vote who is on the US team but no one gets to vote who is on the Euro team?

I find it disgusting all the way around to make these dedicated professionals grovel for these peanuts in what should really just be a friendly fun challenge match. Stupid. FAIL.

IMO.

I did not know that's why in my original post i asked if somebody could clear it up. thank you for doing so. and i was also asking why an american would represent korea in a challenge vs the us? and why would he be considered for team u.s.a after representing the country he was born in against us?

i dont think the players are begging or groveling for votes just giving themselves a chance to represent their country. plus it is guranteed money in a trade that there is little of. why wouldnt they want that?
i do agree matchroom went about way wrong letting the euros vote for our last member without us having a say in theirs.

these guys are being paid 10k or better for this why in the holy hell would it be a fun friendly match? i hope team usa goose eggs the euros. and in all honesty i could give two shits about charlie williams i was asking some simple questions about him since he is on the ballot and was ahead in votes of far better players is all. and if you dont care about this like you say, then why such a long post on it?

:-) Hey, you're not supposed to able to GET to 3 different computers.......

Don't break something else.

The lap top. Then the dusty one downstairs. And on my brother's computer. I got two other brothers and have asked them to vote also.

The back is re-enforced like a bunker. Not much left to break!
And it's as flexable as a bunker also! :)

Thanks JB.

I don't know about Charlie representing Korea. I think that the event or events you refer to were made up by Charlie and promoted by Charlie and so whatever and whoever is "representing" whichever is all just made up for the program. Just like the "Mosconi" Cup. It's a made up event where the promoter, Matchroom, run by Barry Hearn, makes all the rules, can and does change the selection process on a whim.

This isn't the Olympics. I see it as players prostrating themselves for votes. It's probably the best marketing gimmick since, well, American Idol....but to me it's debasing and not how I wish to see some of my friends who are also some of the most gifted sportsmen on Earth having to earn their living.

these guys are being paid 10k or better for this why in the holy hell would it be a fun friendly match?

So it's a serious competition? Races to five in front of screaming sharking crowds? Why don't they play three holes for the Ryder cup and give out free beer?

I can see that you are very serious about it. Enough to start "asking questions" about Charlie's citizenship Glenn Beck style. At that point this whole thing became ludicrous to me personally.

And I designed and made cases for the original USA Mosconi Cup team. Nick Varner, Johhny Archer, Kim Davenport, Reed Pierce and Earl Strickland. So it's not an event that is meaningless to me but this stunt has really left a bad taste in my mouth seeing all these great players and people begging for votes.

If I'm the best why am I third on the voting list on matchroom?

Because nobody thought you'd need a bot to keep up with Charlie....
Go play him a quick set on TAR, that way the polls will jump more in the correct direction!
Then it would be up to you to take down Rodney.....

of course we can't be too serious about this very poll but here CW loses even to Where is Earl selection! Kinda differs with what we see in official poll? Tells something IMO (=voting system sucks, should have used at least captcha like sfleinen said, or better track any IP and not allow for multiple votes from a given person. Those of you who sincerely voted only once are free to add as many votes in favor of your guy as you like, in case you didn't know)

They say on the Matchroom site that only 1 vote per ip is being tallied. Who knows?

The point is that anyone who is clever enough can probably fool whatever system they have in place. And certainly a script can be written to "vote" but I don't know how easy it would be to IP mask sufficiently enough using a script. I am sure it's not that hard for someone who knows what they are doing.

I seriously doubt that Charlie or anyone else is employing a botnet for this - for one thing if you have a botnet in place then you are the head of a criminal gang and using it for things that bring you more money than professional pool is worth.

Of course if anyone's "plea" were to go viral across the net then it could result in a major spike in votes from people who could otherwise care less.

Looking at is as purely a marketing exercise I would be really curious to see the final results in terms of where the votes came from and with what frequency. Might be a very interesting way to gauge a few points for future endeavors.

I have a few ideas about thing I would done differently to gauge the relative strength of particular mediums like Facebook and AZ etc...

Plus like Adam said - Barry Hearn has the key to the ballot box and if he wants a player in then that player is in. At this point Dennis Hatch is looking like his inclusion might sell more tickets and ensure discussion up to and after the event for a while.

Agree or not with the method this definitely brings out some interesting points. Didn't the IPT do this a year or so ago for who got to play Efren Reyes?

or make the players drink 2 beers a hole and make it a last man standing match lol :p
