Who makes a low deflection shaft that isn't laminated?

Ed Young (Chicago partner of Ed Kersenbrock) made mine to my specifications: 1-piece maple, 10mm diameter tip, 1/4" ferrule, hollow first 6-8", straight (conical) taper from tip to joint.

It hits stiff with extremely low squirt (lower than OB-1 or Predator). Cost $150 a few years ago.

Logic would say that 10 mm diameter shaft (first 6") or less will work - less mass and more flexible that a 13 mm.

I've always been able to 'tweak' my shafts to REDUCE (not eliminate) deflection considerably. Bottom line is ya gotta lose the weight in the tip area from the tip to about 5-10 inches down the shaft. This can be done by using a lighter ferrule by changing up the material or the size of the ferrules. Also, turing down the shaft a little helps. Most importantly for me however, is using a tighter radius shape on my tip. It may just be the way I feel or see it, but I've always seemed to get less deflection from a smaller radius (dime) tip.

I hear the Kevin Varney makes a low deflection shaft, maybe you can get on his waiting list.......

Yeah...and prepay if possible. I recommend Steve Lomax. He makes a low deflection solid shaft that has as good a hit as any shaft out there. JMO.

I believe the new Poison shafts from Predator are low deflection. I don't know how they compare with a 314 for deflection, but they are not laminated. I have a friend who likes his, but I haven't tried them. I don't know how available they are in different joint configurations either.

Schuler has a low deflection shaft that is solid maple I believe, 1/4" ferrule on it, or there abouts.

It's actually more like 1/8" ferrule or less. I shoot with one and it plays great. I have tried the P2, OB1 and a lot of others and the Schuler "squirtless" shaft is my favorite. Of course it is not really squirtless as that is hardly accurate, it does have a nice feel to me and is super low deflection.

Since May of this year we do a low deflection shaft that is not laminated. The shaft was developed by Germanys national headcoach (pool) Andreas Huber.

I tried to find a description in English of the shaft you mention, but can't seem to find it there. Do you have a direct link to the description in English, as I sure don't read Deutsch.

Yeah, the thin tip was chosen partly to keep squirt down (also to make it more clear where I hit the CB). But because of the straight taper my thin-tipped shaft hits stiffer than most 13mm shafts. Also, I think it's pretty much accepted that stiffness doesn't play much of a role in the amount of squirt a shaft produces.

Mike Capone makes a low end mass shaft that's low deflection, and he makes it laminated or regular. I like it a lot. I've got it on my main player these days.

Has anyone here used a queperfect cue with one of these shafts?
His claims seem a wee bit hard to believe.
Corey from Tiger or Neil Fujiwara from Predator might have something to say about his claim.

yes

I have played with one of his cues. the one that Debbie Schjodt has...i met her in vegas in 2007 and ran a table with it.

My main playing cue is a predator 2k3 with an old school 314 shaft...and debbie's cue plays lights out. i picked it up and after admiring the finish on it, i ran the table like i had had the cue for years. its sweet.

he makes several slams to fillipino ( his spelling) players .. then later claims Efren as a freind and user of his shafts.... sounds to me like he doesn't even know who Efren is...

I would want one of those shafts.. just because they look cool... but this whole site seems like a con game..

Actually he jabs at Filipino Cue Makers not Players. And as I have heard from several announcers and some other polls, he (Efren) has in the past (possibly now even) used Ronnie Powell's cues. Also if you want to know about QP cues there are couple users on here that have one. PoolPlayer2093 owns a QP cue and Debbie Scholtz (probably spelled wrong) uses one and also has some comments on Ronnies site. I don't own a QP cue as of yet but I am planning on purchasing one in the next few weeks. There is also another user on the forums that uses one that had an issue with the finish, he also appologizes to Ronnie publicly on these forums. Take a look, I like his workmanship and I am going to order one. I play with a 5k1 with a 314-2 shaft and find it deflecting alot, I am hoping that Ronnies Super Low-deflection Prodigy shaft lives up to everything he claims. It is also built from solid wood I believe. The wood he uses is previously submerge Old Growth woods from Lake Michigan.

Also as far as I am aware JoeyInCali and Ronnie don't get along. Not to say that JoeyInCali doesn't give sound advice in this. But anyone who competes in a specific market will have biased points of view. I would say that your best bet is to talk to players who have these shafts. I also think Sugartree can make lower deflection shafts than Predetor and Tiger X, but I can't remember if they were on the deflection test list.... so I could be wrong :(
