Who mentored the Pros...???

I always find these "old school in relation to new school" threads fun, and since we have so many great pool history afficionados here, I figured this was the best place to ask the question - which pros were mentored by some well known old-schoolers? The only ones I can personally think of was Corey D. and Jimmy Caras, and I'm not even sure to the extent that Jimmy taught corey since he was more of a straight pool player, and Mike Sigel and Larry Hubbart (also not sure to what extent). If you guys know any, feel free to share ;)

Jeanette Lee was mentored by straight pool old schooler and 400+ ball runner Gene Nagy and also counts Bobby Hunter as a major influence.

Jay Swanson mentored Johnny. Ronnie mentored Keith. Danny mentored Mike Carella. Brian mentored Rodney. Those are a few I know about. And Jersey Red mentored CJ.
 
I seem to recall that Robin Dodson counted Larry Lisciotti as one of her mentors.
 
George "Ginky" SanSouci counts 300+ ball runner George Mikula as his mentor.
 
YES Jimmy Caras mentored Corey at Florida Bob's room...Drexeline Billiards in PA. I also had lessons from Mr. Caras....but, I'm no Corey! :)

How bout Allen Hopkins and Shadow?....anyone remember him?

Sigel and Mr Crane? right?

Nick Varner and Mr. Cokes?......

how about Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante?do you guys know who mentored them?or everything just came natural to them?
 
Chicago 200-ball runner (at 14.1) Tom Karabotsos counts Dallas West as a mentor.
 
I have heard Alex Pagualyan count Canadian player Paul Thornley as a mentor.

It's no secret that Bobby Hunter had tremendous impact on John Schmidt.

I've heard that Jeremy Jones was at least on influence on Gabe Owen.
 
I know Ralf Souquet had some tutoring from Jim Rempe, I think Ralf was already a good player and Rempe just polished him off.

Cokes and Varner, Hunter and Schmidt are both correct. Very much mentoring relationships.

In the old days we would say that Cokes "turned out" Varner. Hal Mix came along later as his coach. He was with Nick when he was winning everything in sight! Nick's father also had a huge influence on his life and career. Dad was one sharp cat also.
