we were just talking about how things have changed last night from 30 years a go playing leagues and I think two things contribute to that .
1) people don’t drink at leagues like they used to because of dwi laws. In pa a dwi can cost you about $10k plus losing your license .
2) I know with apa a lot of people play 3 or 4 leagues a week And they can’t afford to run up a big tab at the bar every night.
I don’t drink when I’m playing. I only drink water so 1 of 2 things happens. Either my wife goes and we have dinner at the bar before playing and she does drink Or when I go by myself which I normally do to masters I buy a team mate or a veteran when I’m home at the vfw a beer or shot when I get my water so I spend some Money.
Quit long time ago. Haven't seen BJ in at least 15yrs.
Didn't know Greg 'Spanky' Hogue was in the 700's. Last i saw it was around 675ish. My point was there aren't very many. 20-25yrs ago there was at least twice that many in Ok. that played that speed. Age,dope/liquor,casinos thinned the herd pretty bad.
As a total population, your post seems accurate.
However, I'd argue per player it is not. If we took 10 average league players, and 10 Fargo 600 players, I think the 10 600 players would have spent way way way more money on pool over their lifetimes than the league players. I'd also think they would spend more per year as well.

This part is tough: I don't generally drink while i'm playing, but compensate by tipping well for my Arnie Palmer and being low maintenance. Be kind to the servers, tip well, and they really won't care how much you're spending.
The six I named were the only ones on the list.

The narrative is still “pool players are cheap” and I don’t get that.
The real saying should be “we don’t offer much except a table, food and drinks. A person can only eat and drink so much”.
I tried tonight too. I ate some food, had two sodas and trained for 2 hours. Still didn’t hit that $100, which I assume would be big spending.
I wish there was someone there next to me so I can pay for all their beers. LOL

I think it goes more by player than room. In my local room there are often players, and sometimes teams, that just show up to play. Some of them even bring in drinks and food to not spend anything extra, despite every place having a policy against it. Other teams and players are always running $20-50 tabs for the night.

Not to at least have a green fee for league pool would seem foolish thinking as a business owner. Then again there are some leagues, such as a bar I shot for two years ago for a year that made a killing on leagues, even without a green fee. Was a great team, fun times, not the most serious of shooting, but the drinking, oh my gosh. I swear it was just like 30-40 years ago. Everyone of the 6 players bought at least one round, the bar bought a round, then there was a free six pack if you won 2 of your three matches. On top of that you had drinks before shooting, and most stayed for some pool, drinks and shots after.
Six person teams, our bar had three teams with two tables, so there was always one or two teams away. I'm out in the rural sticks and after shooting that league I got to know bars that I never knew existed, all within 10 miles of me. Ended up having to quit that league as while I and my wife made some good friends, I just couldn't handle 7-10 or more drinks a night like years long ago. I don't think in big cities you would experience leagues such as this anymore.
