Who won AZ 14.1 State Championships?

Dang it, i got kicked off line before i could post my lengthy reply. Please allow me to finish:

Well Dennis that is a good question, and maybe you need to go to the source, and ask it to the OWNERS of Bullshooter this weekend at their GRAND OPENING. Maybe they can tell you how, and why they are doing a Dart thing for their Grand Opening, and not a Pool thing.

First of all, it's none of my business as to why they are doing a "dart thing" or a "pool thing". Each business owner has their reasons. I was simply stating that if it were me, i would cater to both hobbies and maximize my profits.

Secondly, they have already been approached through a third party for the Desert Classic Tour. It is possible a future event may be held there if we can work out some of the kinks, which do not need to be explained in this forum. I'm way ahead of you.

CocoboloCowboy said:
BTW Dennis have you ever personally own a business, that you depended upon 100% for you livelihood?

No, i have never personally owned a business. I am employed by a governmental agency, and i am also self employed in the similar line of work. In both, it is my responsibility to provide a service to certain businesses and ensure that i cater to their needs. I believe i am pretty successful at both for reasons i won't disclose here. If you care to learn the secret of my success, i would be glad to share them for the small price of $19.95 + s/h. If that is too expensive, feel free to drop by a Desert Classic Tour event and i will provide the advice for free, in exchange for supporting a good cause.

The other person you might want to talk with is Mike Howerton as I believe the last year he had his Oldhausen 1K Add Tour/All Around. SixShooter if my memory cancelled use of their place for one of the VENUES, as they did not want to put in $500.00 as a host big table event, as it was a not a profitable event for them. Kobly's I believe was where the event was moved.

I could be incorrect, but i do recall supporting one of Mike's Olhausen events last year. I must have missed the Oldhausen one. :) I don't recall one being moved, although that is possible.

The real winners were all of the fans that were treated to an excellent webcast of this tournament.

Thanks go out to Lenny, Dennis, Jimmy, and all of the sponsors that made this tournament a success.

For those of us that love the game of 14.1 - we were entertained, even if we did chuckle a bit at the patterns (or lack therof) by some of the players.

I hope we get to see more pool action from Arizona in the future!

Great job!
Thanks Blackjack for the support. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I agree, there were some comical moments. We will try to keep improving the broadcast as we go along.

Gas, Water, and 2 to 1 on the GREEN....

AND, you get to pick the game.......playing HANDICAPPED too?

That's right down your alley.... only thing more he can do is wear a blindfold.

I'd like to see this match come off....tell you what, I'll pitch in ALL the ice tea you can drink too. How 'bout it???

Guess you ran out of Internet Go go Juice. LOL

Well as I said good luck to you. Let me ad with what is going on with the U.S. & State Economy, The Stock Market, Home Prices, Cost of Gas, and everything else. I personally fell the Pool World could be doing some big time bleeding.

I have seen the number of players at weekly tournaments where I play fall, and bar patrons are staying home because that discretionary income many people had is shrinking.

I do not know what your definition is of supporting a good cause.

But like I told JAM in a post above, I have NO PLANS to be part of the DESERT CLASSIC, as I have said if I have no change of dipping into the GREEN I will pass. As I see zero reason to be a contributor of GREEN:idea2: I like playing in Handicapped Tournaments were the LESSER PLAYERS get a Handicap.

My budget for a Handicapped Tournaments $15.00 MAX.

Well lets make things simple as I do not SPELL for CRAP. I was talking about the All Around Pool Event that Mike Howerton ran for several years, with a Pool Table Company as a Major Sponsor. Could have been spelled Olhausen.

And where, may I ask, is this?

Numbers of Bar Patrons, and Tournament players is down all over the Valley. I have heard business is down in the bar business 12-40% is the numbers from someone who is in the bar supply business.

Several weeks ago I stopped by Metro Bar/Sports Bar on the way home from a dinner with friends about 8:30 p.m.. It was a Monday Night. That is when Metro runs a OPEN HANDICAPPED Tournament on Big Tables, 9 Ball, $7.00 buck to enter.

I was looking to see if someone who is normally in Metro a couple of nights a weeks was playing. Place was DEAD, I asked the TD after looking at the Tournament Board what gives. He said something about it being SLOW LATELY.

Metro runs tournament 7 nights a week, and there was always 20-25 minimum each night. Lots of night if you were not there by 7 pm, for a 7:30 Start, you got turned away.

Northern Lounge on Mondays use to have a 8 and under 9 Ball on Bar Boxes, they normally drew 15-25 player depending on the time of the month. Over the last 60 days I have gone down 4 times, three times, there was no tournament, because of poor player turnout. So (3) time I drow 40 + mile round trip, ($9.00 in Go Go Juce) for nothing.

Like I said I think people do not have the discretionary income to spend. I have a friend who own small restaurant, good food, fair prices, his business is down 30%. He say it is because people do not have the discretionary income to spend, so they eat at home.

FYI Metro is hosting a 500 GUARANTEED ADD Scotch Today, it will be interesting to see if they draw the normal 50-60 TEAMS like for their past events.

Being a TD myself, I can agree with what you are saying... for the most part... but what I was ASKING, is where do you play tournaments? Are you a part of the solution, or a part of the problem?

I try and play what people would call a CHEAP Handicapped Tournaments Weekly, with a $15.00 MAX. out lay of cash.

The reason I say try is I never know when I will wake up with an old knee/foot injury that will keep me home. Playing in pain is a major distraction.

The (2) places I mentioned are close to me, and fit my criteria. So that is (2) of the place I have played.

I use to try and make Kolby's Sunday Tournament once a month. I do not try any more because of the distance, and cost of Go Go Juice.

Metro Sports Bar has a PLUS of GREAT FOOD. Both place have good tables, good cloth (thanks to Dave Clayton), clean playing balls, etc. I do not like playing on UNDER MAINTAINED EQUIPMENT.

Hopefully soon the Stock Market will run up, Houses for Sale in AZ will sell, Employment Numbers people work will jump up, etc. and people will have more discretionary income to spend. That in my opinion is part of the solution you spoke of. As consumer will have confidence to spend again.

I feel sorry for families with 3-4 kids having to think about back to school spending.

I guess the Desert Classic Tour is an exception. I guess it really wouldn't make sense to you if i told you that we have had well over 40 and sometimes 50 participants at each stop. It's because of player/sponsor support, i assure you.

Probably the same as most everyone else on these forums, with one exception.

This is the exact reason pro or upper echelon pool never thrives in the U.S.

I know what you meant. I'm going to guess you were not a big supporter of that one either. It was a pretty successful tour that Mike started. Had you supported it, you probably would know how to spell it.

Thanks for making it clear and once again, as in every Desert Classic Tour thread, trying to reflect some type of negativity into it. It is greatly UN-APPRECIATED!

Yes it does make sense, and to me. But to compare a local weekly Bar/Sport Bar Tournament with your tour is like comparing. A Semi Pro Football Game, and the Super Bowl. Totally different kind of players, fans, etc.

If you asking if I ever participated in Mike All Around Event as a Player, the answer is NO. Did i ever go watch, and buy a drink or two the answer is yes.

Sorry I don?t have that kind of money to burn on those high entry fees. Don?t see any large inheritances in the further. As I have no wealthy relatives.

[/QUOTE]

Now let me make an observation as what you would love. That would be ever 8, and below RATED PLAYER in Arizona coming out and entering your tour. I understand your thinking, and motivation. Bigger Prize Pools for the 9?s and above Rated Player. Who seem to always finish in the money.

Last time I played in an OPEN even thought it was Handicapped, all I did was Rack & Watch. Think I got to shoot 3 times, after the 9 or 10 I drew hooked me. That was great safety play on their part, and was not real fun. I am not trying to be blunt, just trying to be perfectly honest.

Was that one or TWO iced teas? 4 bucks tops.

If you limit yourself to just starting 1/2 the posts here on AZB, you could save enough GREEN on your electric bill to cover a tourny or two.

Your observations are dead wrong, once again.

8's and under have a totally seperate prize fund. It's the 9's (like myself) who are at the greatest disadvantage, when it comes to prize funds.

Unlike you, I look forward to having a chance to play a great player. They aren't always 'unbeatable'. I can't wait to play Scott F. He'll probably toast me, but he'll know I was there. And IF I happen to beat him? That will make the entry $$$$ all worthwhile, believe me.

You just need to look deep within...and see if that heart is still ticking, I don't think it is....

COOCOO,

No, yet again, you are sadly mistaken. I would attribute it to lack of knowledge on your part since you have never been to an event as a player and/or spectator.

What i would love is for all players to support all events, every room owner, every tournament director, every tour, every establishment, etc...
It doesn't matter to me what your rating is.

It's not about money to me, sir. Don't forget, this is a non profit tour for ALL players in Arizona!

Hey CooCoo,

Please read posts #76 and #78. I will give you a couple days to come up with another excuse. After that I will just mark it down as lack of heart. Good day!

Thanks Dennis. I am not sure why I am on his ignore list. I guess it could be because I quit responding to his 10 daily PM's about nothing or I started responding to his posts with logic and common sense. Either way I hope he wants to play. :)
