I'm not certain for sure but I believe the way players are selected is each sub organization under the WPA send so many players (not sure that each organization sends the same number though), I believe the WPBA is also given a few seats and the host country also. The following link shows the players' ranking, which countries and organizaions players represented and why they were invited.

The top 8 WPA ranking players were automatically invited.
Other spots were distributed among organizations and the host country , and ten open qualifying spots were available through qualifying tournament.
For instance, AAPA(Africa) only was given two spots and BCA was given eight spots.
For example, Karen corr was invited because her WPA Ranking is number one, Allison Fisher represented EPBF (Europe),
Sarah Rousey represented BCA, and Fu Xiaofang occupied one host country spot.

I can't understand the hieroglyphics on that link. But I do have a question about the invites. Say someone is exempt because they are top 5. Does that give another spot to the region that person is from since they don't need to take one of the spots allowed that area? In other words if Sarah was in because of her world rank does that mean the BCA does not have to include her in one of the spots that are designated to them?

Yes. It appears that is how it is for the Championships. At Amway it also tends to open up the field for more WPBAers to attend.

From my time in China, the lady players there all know and idolize Allison. In the first Pan Xiao Ting pool room in Shanghai, there is a huge picture on the wall of Pan standing with Allison.
 
I think the China Womens' training in the Philippines paid off. If I'm not mistaken, they were there for about a month before this event. Playing all comers at Star Billiards Center.

just want to correct you sir, they have their stay extended to almost 2 months, every night playing from 5pm to 3am in whee hours in the morning
playing money games too with the local players here, first always losing, but in the end winning come perfect for them

yup their practise really did paid off, it's just sad they have to play each other in the semis, much sweeter if they were in different group, i know they will meet in the end.

they will be back to the Philippines staring September 1 to 20th to train once more before flying to Beijing for the China Open again to compete

I never cease to be amazed at why championships are played on poor equipment. For me it takes away the excitement of watching top players play at their best and reduces it to who gets the rolls. I am NOT saying that happened in this final, just that it happens too often. There has been 150 years of championships , it's time the equipment {some of which costs $10,000.00} have some kind of consistency especially during top level tournaments.

I know some of the Koreans(Yu Ram Cha, et.al.) were there and watched them on line.

Were the Chinese there also?

The Metro is actually an OK looking table. That thing that they were playing on might be the f-ugliest table I've ever seen... to say nothing of the playability issues already mentioned.

Yes, if BCA is given 8 spots and Sarah's world ranking is number one, she is in because of WPA ranking (8 spots, ranking 1 to 8) and didn't occupy BCA spots. So the criterion is first WPA ranking, then regional spot, host country spot, qualifying spot.

one more, most china women players r all have Taiwanese coach...........

The Tiawanese coach doesn't surprise me much. I have heard that pool is taught in the schools in Tiawan.

HAHA.......Yu Ram Cha does seem to have many followers in China.:grin:
By the way. To all the chinese speakers on this thread does Yu Ram Cha's name have ANYTHING to do with a "blue car" or is google translate really that bad with translating chinese?
