When did you last speak with Deno? And what did he actually say?

I spoke with him last Thursday morning. We had a nice conversation. You know his phone number Jay. If you want to talk to him (civilly  ), he is available to anyone.

Wow...what a pathetic take on life, imo.  Not ALL the people who make a living from pool, do it by taking from others. There are an infinite number of teachers, entertainers, caring poolroom owners (like my own 'home room" Tim White, of Blackbird Billiards), cue sales people, cue manufacturers, and others who just love the game...but have found a niche, or a way to make a living at it...without "putting the bite" on anyone else. Your statement reeks of personal sour grapes, and it's lucky that everyone doesn't believe this diatribe, or carry a personal vendetta against the game and it's legitimate public and professionals. I have to second this one. Early on I saw that playing pool was a rough racket, and owning a poolroom made a lot more sense. After five years of scuffling and saving I managed to take ownership of my first room. Thirty years later and I'm still making a living from Pool and I don't have to beat anyone to do it.

I like to reference pool players like Pat Fleming (Accu-Stats), Bill Stroud and Danny Janes (Joss Cues), Greg Sullivan (Diamond Tables) and many others who opened rooms, made cues, gave lessons and entertained (like Paul Gerni, Mike Massey and Scott). As Scott said, it isn't hard to find a "niche" in this business if you really look for one.

That's my teacher talkin'. Just because he said I had no idea what a stroke is during my lesson (two years ago) doesn't mean I won't defend him. :D

Seriously, thanks Mr. Lee. This room needs the voice of reason in a bad way.

I second that emotion....

But you sound like you still have that glimmer of hope that the players might still somehow be paid. If you do, then you are easily duped and are foolish.

Is that a nice way of calling you a fool?

LOL

Jake

I'm about as optimistic as chew is ;)

Jake...I have spoken with Deno personally, and know him well enough to believe that, although things are 'behind schedule' (to say the least), the players WILL be paid in full, and the Chicago event will occur on schedule.
A call to the Rosemont confirms that the venue is booked for the IPT tournament, on the dates listed on the IPT site. Although these "missteps" are frustrating and perplexing for not only the players, but all of us "lookers on", so far people have gotten their money, albeit late...and I see no reason to doubt that the Reno players will be paid, as Deno stated. Hopefully the Chicago event will come off more smoothly, due to the IPT HQ being local, and the players will be paid in a timely manner. Mistakes happen, and lessons are often learned from each successive experience. If not, then they are doomed to repeat the same errors, to a more dramatic effect for future events. I trust Deno...and if he says things will be cleared up, I believe him.
I don't consider myself a fool...btw.

Scott the most difficult of all to get back is Trust. A changing of the guard is most likely what will happen to diffuse that situation. But when someones lips start moving again, allot of hard questions and answers will follow before someone risks the expense of attending future events.

I speak to Deno regularly and Scott's statement is on par with what I was told regarding the IPT. Deno is one of the good duys, people!

It is time people give up the game of pool as a means of generating an income and go out and find a decent job. Play it as a game and enjoy it but don't ever think of it as a worthwhile job.

Jake

A decent job, a decent living, a job, or just a living. There are so many in our society that make money but don't have any self worth. There are people that are so glad just to have any job they are much happier than those of wealth. The rich sponge off the poor way more than the 1-10 ratio you quoted. It sounds like pool has deflated your optimisim you once had for this game, so now you go for the throat. I am surprised with your above statement that you even care to be on this forum, if its that bad go play somewhere else, tho you sound like another pool addict that just can't get away, see how great a game it actually is :D :D
