Why A Snooker Table

A buddy of mine opened a poolroom . He has 11 bar boxes and room for several 9 ft tables . Well he put not 1 but 2 snooker tables in . He has been open about 3 months and business is picking up . He does not serve alcohol or food . Where is the profit in this maneuver ? He is located in the country and the players are all traveling to play in the tournaments ,so it is not what you would call a local crowd . Give me your thoughts on this move .
Thanks Petey
PS . I don't have a dime in it , I have helped pull some beach players . but it is not any of my business . I am just curious if I am the only 1 that thinks this is crazy .

If your buddy loves snooker, it is anything but a bad move. Snooker may not be so popular just now with everyone seeming to prefer the 'expensive to play' baby tables, but there are still many that love the game and will travel some distance just to play on a decent table (or any snooker table).

Here in my part of the country, snooker tables have become extremely rare. I often encounter players that say they would travel some distance just to be able to play snooker. Many of them are younger fellows too.

Don't discourage him. :)

ps: where is his room?

golf games

The snooker tables often appeal to people that play ring games for hours on end. They can build a regular set of customers. Also, they are rare enough that they are a drawing card now as are three cushion tables. Worth putting in two or even one? I suppose time will tell.

I've played at rooms with 3 and 4 snooker tables in them, if he's making money from them there should be no problem.

A snooker table in a location like that, won't pay for the square footage they sit in, in time he'll figure that out. Having SOME players on it, is not the same as having a waiting list 10 players deep to get on one:rolleyes:

When he told me his plans , I couldn't believe it . We have no snooker players . And he has regular balls on them .
Thanks 4 your reply

Say what? Regular balls? Ok that is just weird. I think having 2 is overkill but it is better than not having one at all I guess. Some of the best times I have had in a pool room was in massive games of golf on a snooker table. Good times and just a great game.

Are they 10ft, or 12ft snooker tables?

Golf on a snooker table is a good game. I am trying to learn it.

The snooker tables I have seen locally for golf won't accept regular balls in the corners unless fired past the rounds from directly in front of the pocket.

Are there standardized rules? I have heard there are different ways to play concerning forfeiting holes made based on hickies accumulated, or requirements about hitting rails/balls with or without contacting a rail after the hit.

I hear a lot of 'that was the wrong shot', 'why did you shoot that?, now I can't do anything to cover him or take him out'.

It seems to be a very tactical game that I have not gotten my head around yet.

If the room has or develops a hard core crew of 'golf players'-that table will get played.

If you play 'golf' please PM me.

Apologies to petey if this post is too far off base.

6 Snooker tables where I play out of  They've been open for more than 30+ years

All three of the main pool rooms in Toronto have snooker tables. Although one has only two 12-footers, the other two have 6 and 8, all of which are equally as busy as the bar boxes and 9-footers.
