Why do bangers think they deserve a shot at the table?

If you go to a Bar to play pool you have to expect to deal with recreational players and Drunks. These people are not their to improve their game all they want to do is enjoy themselves, they could care less what your purpose is.

So yes you should go to a pool hall if you are serious, playing Drunks benefits know one!!!!!! Unless their intent is to make themselves feel Superior.

No offense, just my opinion!!!!

Amen....:)

If you're there to have fun, why don't you ask them to play again, and offer to pay for the game and give them the break.

It's a win for everyone... yes? It's not like you're concerned with the price of one or two games, right?

Just sayin...

That's typically what I'll do. But if it's someone being particularly annoying, I just look 'em in the eye and say "So are you telling me that if you were running out on me, that you would miss on purpose just so I got a chance to shoot?" Nobody has ever answered "yes."

And yeah, yeah . . . "go to a real pool hall" and all. I do that, too. But the bar with the band and the bangers is a place I can play (for fun) where the wife will go and have a good time as well.

I played

When I'm at the bar playing some bar box 8ball, I'm trying to break and run everytime. Although it doesn't happen as often as I'd like, I always here people complaining that they don't get to shoot? ;) Isn't that the point of the game, to pocket all of your balls in the least amout of innings? In the last few weeks I've been sharked a few times when I was about to run out. I understand that they put 75 cents in the table, but don't they understand what I'm trying to do? (don't talk to me when I'm shooting) :outtahere: I know what your all gonna say that I should just go to the pool hall and play some real players, but I like to go to the bar on Friday...

I played a lot of bangers in bars, But I never bragged about it, Or Talked about their game. Instead I always remembered that we are all bangers at first and I give them some pointers on their game or complimemnt them on what they did right.

If you want to play bar pool come see me and we will see who is still a banger!

H.P.

Because they are there for a different reason. If you go into a bar with intentions of playing serious pool, think of it from their perspective. It's kind of like going to play street hockey with the local kids, hip checking and high sticking them.

Admittedly some of them THINK they are playing serious pool, but to be fair it is the minority.

Certainly I would continue to play there if you enjoy it, but I would have fun with it and not expect tournament conditions. People are going to shark you because they think it's funny, and as long as there isn't any money involved, it's not like your losing anything.

Look its like this

Many guys just want to show off in the bar so they can bring home some tang....well ain't no pro hoe's going to like a guy who cant run 3 balls, especially if your putting him in the electric chair betting on a bottle of water. So yea the guys going to be pissy, no pro hoe's for the banger.

Bar players just like to show off, drink and have a good time being drunk.

It's not a place to play pool like most of us on here like to play, its a place to drink, dance, fight, search for tang etc....

It's not like they are invading in your pool playing, you are invading in their bar-shit-hole-dom. You will not change them. You can only change thy self padawan.

give us BANGERS a chance

After you run a few racks have some fun and play last pocket or bank the 8.Us BANGERS do not apriciate good pool unless you play like you don't care so it looks cool.

no love for bar shooters huh?

Well, I can't speak for all parts of the country but in the chicagoland area bar play is where it's at. Not to take anything away from some of the great pool halls and great players that go there but players like Jeff sergent and mike bandey can be found any night of the week down here playing in some hole in the wall bar. No, they're not pros but they could give any amateur a great match bar none.

Just remember, I don't care who you are (disregarding the champions), to some people YOU are a banger. It hurts me to admit this to myself also. Playing on a Valley, I've run eight. But there are players that can offer the last four. It just pains me to actually know this. There's more than just running out when you're playing a champion. There's "fading his racks."

Thank you for speaking My mind.

This goes way beyond poetry. This is a philosophy for life. I think we have found a new leader. Long live Grey ghost. :bow-down:

I don't play bangers! However if I did I'll bank some, shoot some straight, and play safe in until i think its time to end the game or loose myself. Personally I get bored beating a dead chicken so I pick a time to go on my way. Either that or let a hot chick win. LOL They'll love you for it, or not.

life in the bars

I see a general contempt of bar room players from many people on this forum. I do kind of chuckle about that thinking about the people I have crossed horns with in bars, on bar boxes, back in my drinking days. Johnny Archer, Danny Medina, Mike Massey before he seriously took up artistic billiards and was taking down some pretty nice scores, and a couple dozen more totally unknown players that were their equal or better on a bar box at least on the night I met them. Some well known players now that the internet outs them look awfully familiar to me and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we had met in the past. Hard to say though, a lot of years on both sides.

There are plenty of easy pickings in the bars but there are some guys that are triple tough in them too. Oh yeah, and a couple of girls I have met also. There were at least two ladies that took down every man I saw them play when the money got right. They were friends and I didn't bet with friends so my ego was safe.

You just need to buy yourself this fine t-shirt, so everyone will know up front exactly where you are coming from when you run out all over their beer-sodden bar-fly behinds.

In my day there were some really great bar box players. You could be assurred that if you put your quarter on the table 1) the game was not a freebie 2) the guy was not going to be a banger.
I haven't been in a bar in eons (probably since around 1990) and really have no desire to be around a bunch of slobbering falling down loud mouth drunks. I got nothing against people that go in them, it's just not for me.
I like the pool hall because 1) the 9 footers are in a back room and most that enter like one pocket 2) the speakers to the rap crap screaming music are turned off...the front of the hall is for the bangers, drunks, and loud music 3) most players that come in to the 9 foot room are going to be some decent competition...not always, but most of the time.
I love a good competitive game with the possibility if I screw up....I lose. It makes me concentrate and play hard. If I just wanted to beat balls around, I would go to the front room of the hall.

break defensive like your playing 14:1 they will definitely get a shot and you have a really difficult out to negotiate. or pot your balls in rotation only.... both of these things will make the game extremely tough for you and ensure that the "banger" will get to shoot still. everyone one wins... you get to play tougher pool and still have fun in a bar and the "banger" gets to.... umm bang? I guess.

I love playing in bars and playing the bangers, it's a ton of fun.

My favorite was the time I was on the table, next guy was up, put his quarters in ... and I broke and ran. He was so mad, especially because 3 people had quarters up in front of him. The rule at this bar was if you lose, you buy the guy on the table a drink... so I got a free drink from him AND he bought the 3 people that had quarters up on the table drinks just to be able to play me next.

He put his quarters in and racked them ... and I got the 8 on the break. He was so mad he put his fist through the bar window and had to go to the hospital for stitches. I saw him 5 or 6 days later and said "Don't you owe me a drink?"

I'm sorry but your not going to like what I am going to say.

Like someone has already said, they know exactly what you are doing, getting free practice time at their expense. That basically makes you a scrounger.

It doesn't make you 'amazing' that you can beat the average Joe. 90% of these players cue so badly that if they make any shot other than a duck, its a fluke. Do you want me to give you a clap?

These are just players that want to have a beer and shooting pool is nothing but a fun social game. They don't have aspirations to play pool at a very high level. You probably mistake it for envy and that they just can't handle being beaten. No that is not the case, they feel pissed (and rightfully so) that your being a killjoy, spoiling the fun, hogging the table, taking their money and feeding your ego at their expense.

I've actually come to despise people like yourself. People that do have a genuine interest but then put other people down like they are deficient, and not as talented. Playing pool for most people is not high on the list of life priorities. Clap, clap, bravo...

They deserve to play on those tables a lot more than you do. That is why bars have pool tables, to attract customers who pay for drinks. Your taking away that attraction away from them during peak time. Lets say that three people didn't come to the bar that night because they decided to go somewhere else that had a pool table. The bar is going to lose money because of you.

If you want to play pool at a more serious level then compete or get a practice partner and go to a pool hall. I would be totally behind you if it was a proper outlet and people sharked you.

Personally for me, I want tough competition. I want to play players that give me a challenge.. obviously you don't and are the type of person that just wants to feel like he's amazing because he can beat a few intoxicated people that can't cue straight.

Well said. Yeah it's fun on occasion to get on a box at a random bar and play, but it's nothing to take any pride in. (not saying the original poster does, just agreeing with the above comment). You usually just end up showing your ass if you arent looking for any action.

However, one thing I disagree with is offering advice. I wont give advice unless asked first. It could end up shitty, especially if alcohol was involved. I will compliment them on good shots though. That's the right thing to do in almost any situation.
