Why do cue makers hate making joint protectors ??

Any of my cues include at no extra charge jp's. I decided that way, the amount of work that cues take to be done deserve a little extra sugar :)
Steve's words are so true, they are a lot of work but at the end of day and when you look at your work you should feel proud of yourself :)
Steve, did you rob a Walgreens to get those plastic containers? Do you mind to share the source?

Please post a pic of the kind of J/P's you include with your cues Tony....

Here's an example of Tony's j/p's...

There are little and people think they should be priced as such.
Two years ago at the Super Billiards Expo. I had made some intense Afzalia burl j/p's 2 shaft/1butt. With real ivory inserts and intricate engraving. $99.00. Sold "0"

Steve...Do you still have the Afzelia Burl JP's? Might be interested to see if they would go with this

I don't hate making them. I just don't make them. I don't know why and can't explain it. Building cues is fun. Building JPs is a pain. Since I build cues as a hobby, I choose to stay with the fun part.

There are people out there that love to build JPs. I prefer to leave JPs to the people who get joy from them!

That's very well said. If you don't enjoy doing something you shouldn't be doing it to begin with.
P.S. I asked Larry how much a set of matching JP's would cost when I bought my first custom from him and his response was......"you couldn't afford what I would charge."I thought this was hilarious. Still loving the cue!!

I would never say" you couldn't afford what I would charge" that would be a little arrogant in my opinion. What I may have said is " you wouldn't like my price". Recently I have a few people insisted on a price. My new JP policy has been amended to read.

" joint protecters are the same price as the cue. Must be paid in advance and will be , at least two years before delivery."

So far I have had no takers!

Love it Larry

They are a big pain in the ass.... I will only make them for my Q's. And then only if they beg me.

I wasn't trying to throw you under the bus at all on my post. I probably did misquote you on your comment. I am sorry if I offended you in any way with it.......and if you start taking orders again I may very well be your first customer for some JP's. it's all about quality and yours is top notch in my book.

With US labor rates what they are, and the fact that joint caps take time, its tough for high end cuemakers to provide that service and take away from orders to make the accessories. I agree that cues over a certain threshold should have caps.

When you're making stuff out of the US and labor rates are 3 dollars a week, and a 550 dollar set of caps only cost you 60 to make, you can make all the caps you want. I think there could be a big market for caps that are outsourced.

I think when there are custom cues and the cuemaker adds that little touch it really adds to the package. Mass produced stuff, not so much.
