As above. I've tried many cues and never understood why some butts feel hollow like they have been drilled through while some don't. Hope you guys can enlighten me on this.

Why do some cue butts feel hollow?

Because the maker is to shallow
No good rules, he followed
The cue should have gone to the gallow
There, it should have been plowed

Sorry via, seems everyone is in weird sorts at the moment, lol, myself included. Out of curiosity though are you speaking about custom cues, or production cues, high end, or low end?

its ok despotic, not really talking about the shafts but more of the butts. custom cues that is

A lot of production cues bore into the butt and thread the opening so that a weight bolt can be inserted. The heavier the cue, the longer the weight bolt. Lighter weight cues use a shorter weight bolt that doesn't completely fill the area that was tapped out. That does create a hollow area in the butt of some cues.

I special ordered a 62" Viking, asked for 19oz.

It came in at 21.4oz, but had a 1oz bolt, must have been ten inches um, up the butt?

ok sorry guys, shouldn't have asked...

Put his question in Ask the Cuemaker. You may get a sincere answer. I know a lot of times I will post a humorous answer because it seems funny and obvious or I just got home from league play and am not feeling any pain.

Don't take any offense. It is a good question that deserves a answer.
