I walked into a new pool room yesterday, for practice. I heard the Olhausen tables were nice, and I never played on one before. I was there one minute and someone wanted to gamble with me, and I really just wanted to be alone and practice. It made me wonder what motivates people to play the game of pool.

you can love the game and still like to gamble. it just adds even more fun to it...

I find it best if I just want to practice and not pick up a money game to just not make eye contact with the tables beside me. Just zone out. People will leave you alone.. if not how hard is it to say "no i'm just practicing"

I love the game. I used to go to the pool room with my grandpa. Those antique tables with the big legs were great big doll houses for me and raggedy ann. I've never been hurt in the pool room. I've never gone hungry in the pool room. I am entertained by either the play or at least the quick wit. I love the smells, and sometimes I just love to close my eyes and hear the balls crack. The wood and flavor is very rich. Somehow all humans are instantly on the same level at the Pool room. I like to gamble. I like an even game. I like the competition and sometimes even the people. I love it all.

Shouldve had an option for ALL OF THE ABOVE. Cause that would explain why i play better than just one of the options.

When I played pool just for the $$$ it wasnt as fun after a while, it became a grind like turning any thing you love into a business it loses its charm. Now I play for fun and if there is action thats cool to but like you sometimes I just like to play alone. If I'm gonna play someone I like to bet but I dont have too anymore. Thats the best of both worlds.

It's relaxing

The game takes away much stress. I can get on the table every night right after work for an hour and waala!! I'm a new man!! It has nothing to do with the 3 COORS I had while playing. :D :D It's a PASSION!!!

When George Sutton the bank robber was asked why he robbed banks, he replied: " 'Cause I like to!"

I play pool 'Cause I like to!!

I think I loved the game because at a very young age I found that I was pretty good at it. When I was taught how to hustle at it from my Dad and a few other old hustlers, I really fell in love with it. Your playing something you really enjoy, your making money doing it, all kinds of exietment (climbing out the bathroom window in the bar because you know if you go back out there their going to kick your ass for taking their $$) God I miss that $hit. Johnnyt

I play because I love to. I would also like to play for competition, but I want to be a better player, and actually be competitive first.

I have been playing over 50 years, it is in my blood, it is a fascinating game, and each time you break another rack the game is a new challenge. I hope to get better someday to where i can be a completive threat to better players.

Becase I'm totally addicted to the "torcher"! of the game from both ends. To GIVE and RECEIVE. Just as I get a little cocky, it deals me a quick hand of humilty.:)

I feel the same way. A pool room is one place where age, color, religion, gender or status does not matter. I play cuz I love the game and what goes along with it.

I play because it is the what I am best at and that still is not very good and because I am too old to do anything else.

I might of voted wrongly. I choose 'for the competition'. It's actually for the love of the challenge that the game brings. Although you do have a competitor, I see the true competitor as the table itself.
