Why doesn't the IPT talk more about what cues players are using

I know it their job to discuss the games at hand but it would be nice to know what these guys are playing with. I know these days everything is money related and sponser related but surely they can find a blurb or two about the equipment. I think most viewer would like the info. I find myself always looking at the cues these guys are playing with and left wondering.

Plus is it just me or did Mike Sigel look like he has tourette's Syndrome.

Maybe since most of the players aren't paid to endorse the cues (and neither is the IPT) they don't give as much attention as we would like. Even in Golf you don't hear commentators talk about the type of clubs or even the company player's are sponsored by. Logos do all the talking I guess.

I'm sure thats the reason but I think they are missing a nice key point of discussion by at least not mentioning it. A player profile breakdown or something would be helpful. I guess like everything else in this world money talks.

Do a search. There's a thread here in the archives on which rackmsuckr did a LOT of work finding out what cues the IPT players will be using.

It's likely in the IPT Forum.

Yeah, but an in depth listing, including maintenance would be excellent. Maybe a format of the most asked questions could be put together, like taper, tip size, tip hardness preferred, etc. etc. along with comments.

Something like that would probably appeal to many readers, I wonder if each player would take the time to fill out something like that?

As noted, player equipment choices are nearly never mentioned in golf. Do you want to know what kind of glove a baseball player uses in the field or what brand of tennis racket the top players use? Most fans don't believe that the equipment much matters. Those who telelcast sporting events realize this, and spare the fans from analysis of the equipment choices of the professionals.

Let's add to this that serious players are not the target market of the IPT, and nobody other than a serious player cares a lick about the equipment.

The average fan of pool is familiar with two types of cues: one piece and two piece. In addition, the average fan of pool is aware of two kinds of tips: glue on and screw on.

Thats why I suggested just a blurb or short convo for those that are interested. We don't need a thirty minute segment on it but I'd like to have some info.

The IPT Focus is to to Promote cue for Maker, Dealers, etc. Think they would be willing to talk all about cues if the MONEY was Right....IMO

I think as they say in the Supreme Court I'm going to have to concur in part and dissent in part here. I agree absolutely with your statement that the people that the IPT is trying to appeal to don't give a rats behind what equipment the players are using because the information would be meaningless to them. Heck, I like to think I follow pool quite closely, but when I hear about certain shafts or certain custom cuemakers it doesn't mean a helluva lot to me. So I think this is probably the primary reason. However, I have to disagree on the point that people don't care much what equipment golfers are using. Infact, I think people care so much about what clubs the pros are using they overlook what equipment they should be buying to best fit their game. Most golfers (even average or below average ones) are equipment obsessed. Now you may not hear Johnny Miller talking about equipment that they guys are using, but it does happen a fair amount of the time especially when the player has made an equipment chage of some sort. Also, many times golf publications will dedicate great portions of their magazines and sometimes entire issues to equipment related stories.

I think

that a 'Behind the scenes' look of the tour and upcoming tournament, say 2-4 days prior to tournament time, with an overview, talks with some tour members, equipment picks of the pros, background on some 'hot' tour members, and things of this nature would be very interesting for all the
league and serious players out there watching and waiting for the tournament.

Just a special 1 hour segment, I think, would help garner support for the tournament and tour. Actually, I think it should be before every IPT
tournament.
