Why is Pool so Sponsorship driven?

Player's can't play with what they really want to play with. "Whom" ever sponsor's ya. I'll "find" some cue that your company makes that I kinda like.

Ask Efren what the best cue he's ever played with, he'll disregard Meucci and Judd cues and say something about "Pampanga" cues. No LD shafts.

Is it a problem?

Industy and participants are closely aligned. Sounds logical to me.

Users get something they can use effectively and manufacturers get exposure.

I see no problem with that and understand you like to start threads.

Look at NASCAR. Major sponsor decals on the car plus smaller decals from others pasted all over.

Still, I think no one wants to drive the Play Tex or the Wonder Bra car.

Hey BB, maybe we can get sponsored by Skoal. A nice Skoal cue plus free chew for the rest of our lives, or until our teeth fall out.

So the loop begins again, and we are back to, "I hate LD shafts". I figured we were close as the last one was, "I hate Kamui chalk". Now in the days ahead we will need an outrageous thread like your last one, "Women are only good for cooking", and of course who could forget, "I'm too good for 8-ball", or your other greatest hit, "I am a roll model for brash Americans".

Oh, maybe next we can hear about a $20 bar cue made from used toothpicks outperforming a "useless custom cue". Those ones always capture my interest.

If you don't like products, don't buy them. If you can't afford them and this is merely angst, play someone for cash since you are the greatest player in the Philippines. If you would like to dazzle us, please tell us why PocketPoint has such a giant chip on her shoulder and just cannot play well with others. Were there tears involved? If so, how many, and why?

If it's anything like golf, a company will make a custom cue to the pros specs and possibly make the cue appear to look like their latest commercial offering.
If like golf, it is also possible for the pro to choose their favorite cue maker and have them build a cue that appears to look like the pros sponsers current commercially available offering.
I know it happens in golf for a fact. Seems easily possible to happen in pool too.

I didn't know it was. Very few players have real sponsors who pay them.

The BEAN COUNTERS of Corporate USA, are all about getting a RETURN ON ADVERTISING DOLLAR.

They know the demographics of each person who is a Sports Fan, Pool Player, League Pool Player, or just sit home on the couch watching sports on TV. They know stuff like Average CREDIT SCORE, and Amount of EXTRA INCOME TO BLOW.

That is why say at a NFL Game the CHEAPEST TICKET HAVE A FACE VALUE OF $60.00,and Fan will pay 4-5 Bucks for 20 OZ. of Water, and over 8.00 BUCKS for a DRAFT BEER.

Wonder how many Pool Player would spring for a 8.00 BUCK Draft Beer in the local Pool Bar, before the Doors said CLOSED.

Trust me the Corporate Bean Counter know their Job well, and that is why they will spend 2.5 Million Bucks on a Super Bowl TV AD. Plus the cost of make a GREAT AD Super Bowl Fans remember.

What happened. Did he turn you down when you offered your cue?

Correct. This industry is lagging behind when it comes to sponsorship support, to either the players or event organizers. I’m new to it and its structure is a complete disaster. I can see why there isn’t any interest in big sponsorships of this sport. If this industry had a parent association that everyone tried to model, just like any other successful sport, it would rapidly gain popularity.

Heck, I believe our largest billiards organization in the US is the APA..an amateur association. So if you’re a sponsor and you want to be part of the biggest part of a sport you’re going to get involved in, and in this case it is pool, is an amateur league/venue. This is not attractive to any sponsor.

As with anything the success of a structure starts with its foundation. In billiards it will go back to a parent, umbrella organization that every state, league, and tournament director wants to model their tour/league after. I feel this is a solution to getting real sponsorship interest into the sport, or at least a better industry.

Does this already exist in the US? Have I missed something? I played pool one summer in the late 80s and I thought it was the greatest sport I’ve ever seen. It was on TV often and a lot of people talked about it. Now I can’t find anything on pool and no one outside of the pool hall is talking about pool anymore. Often the first thing that is mentioned when someone does talk about it the APA. Back around in another circle we go…

You got started around the time of COM and maybe the biggest boon in pool in it's history. It is not surprising it came down from there over time but it did level off at a higher level then before. I remember in the early 80's before COM pool rooms were pretty much extinct. Even the Brunswick bowling alleys that had always been the bedrock of pool in mane cities were closing their pool rooms and turning them into meeting and banquet rooms. I bought out one of these and got a room full of Gold Crowns for $200 each. They were so worthless it took me years to get any money out of them selling them off one at a time. Pool was at a really low point. You first saw it at it's height.

Yes, I would drive that car.
I had to quit taking Viagra. I used to sleep on my stomach and I would wake up during the night and I would be close to the ceiling and I am afraid of heights.
