Why no Jean Balukas videos on Youtube etc...

Hey all.....bit of a noob here.

I did a bit of a search on this forum, and then on youtube and google videos and found no real videos available on the net of Jean Balukas playing.

This made me wonder.....why is this so ??

For such a legend of the game, I would have thought people would have posted videos of her playing.

Can anyone answer why not........ or do the "powers" with the copyright get them taken down ??

By the way, I am from Australia, only a handful of people here would have ever heard of Jean Balukas, and even less would have ever seen her play.

Now the teaser.....I think I have a very old video of her playing....about an hour worth of footage.

If.....I can find it......if the video has not deteriated.....if.....I can find a video player to play it on......if I can connect it to my pc and capture the footage.......should I upload it to Youtube.....

I'd seen that one plenty of times before, it comes up under a basic search and is good value.

I was really thinking about footage of her playing in tourneys etc. though.

Hi, mate! :p

Jean is about 50 years old today. In her heyday, video footage was not as readily available as it is now. My boyfriend competed in pool during Jean's era, and there's not much footage of him either. :frown:

I have a ton of print pool media with Jean's name all over it. "Queen Jean" is how she was hailed. The media definitely loved Jean Balukas, e.g., National Billiards News, Pool and Billiards Magazine, et cetera.

My boyfriend said she broke balls "like a man," and when she competed in a men's pool tournament, the men didn't like it one bit. In fact, she beat Buddy Hall and Keith McCready in Binghamton, NY at the BC Open one year. I think it was 1986, but that's subject to check.

It was a tough tournament for the men that year becuase the whole crowd was pulling for "Jeanie." Every ball she pocketed, there was loud cheering and applause. That's tough for any opponent to fade. :grin:

Here's a snapshot of Queen Jean, depicted in the middle. Gold star for who can name the other two lady pros. ;)

my buddy rex was nice enough to hook me up with a video of a match jean played years ago. she hit 'em good!

Wild guess.....since I haven't ever seen either of the other two, and my computer is running real slow.....(cause I'm capturing some video...) so I can't do any searching...... :smile:

Nope!

Hint: Lady on the left is still shooting today and is considered a good player and a lovely female, i.e., eye candy for the men. Lady on the right is in the industry members' so-called "Hall of Fame," the so-called "representative" of North America, the BCA (Billiards Congress of America).

Jay Helfert on here (AZBilliards.com) has/had at least one dvd of Jean and Ewa playing in a Classic Cup tournament finals in the 1990's for sale. Johnnyt

This BCA Hall of Famer is known today with her husband's last name, though in this picture, she was not married and went by her maiden name. :smile:

This one is tricky because I have seen this particular player with about 20 different hairdos -- long hair, short hair, straight hair, and curly hair. :cool:

If that is Loree Jon Ogonowski (sp?), I would never have guessed it.
