Why Shanelle should be given a chance?

Is it bashing Shanelle and being upset at her because she took a sponsorship that another could have conceivably gotten that played better?

~or~

Is it that we disagree with the company's choice in choosing her because she is promoting sporting equipment that she doesn't at this time play well with?

I think there has not been a "concise" argument about it because so many people have been replying to each other and saying these two separate things to each other, there by getting nowhere at all as evidenced by the eleven or twelve pages we are at already.

Hi Tina!!! It's been along time since i last saw you but I do remember that we were both in that "boat", with a lot of other girls, devoting time and energy to the sport and getting no support whatsoever for a chance at making an impact on a sport that we love. In my opinion, you were a very good player already with TONS of potential to get even better....you also were "easy on the eyes" too! I am amazed on how much opinion regarding this thread comes from people who have not actually lived and breathed the whole experience that we have gone thru. It almost makes their opinions unimportant to me - yet it is a forum and all mature responses/opinions are respected by me.

I don't think that Marissa, Phoebe, cuechick or any other female is jealous of Shanelle at all that she got this sponsorship, or is mad at her in any way. I have read all of this thread, along with the other recent one and I feel that the general consensus is that no one at all faults her for taking the free money and the opportunities afforded her by Charlie Williams. I do feel that Marissa got caught in a trap and convoluted her own argument (which *gasp* I tended to agree with) because she allowed her feelings about Charlie to be enter-twined with what she was trying to express. That added an unneeded feeling of being in jr. high school listening to an argument at recess.

Anyone in their right mind would take a hand up when trying to make it in this industry when they love the game. I do not blame or fault her for doing this! I never read anyone discrediting her character, and no one write that she isn't a nice girl.

I feel like the more valid argument is finding fault with the company for choosing her to sponsor. This forum is filled with pool purists, those who worry about the credibility of the a sport that already has problem in the eyes of the everyday person. We are avidly trying to expand this sport to the masses for the good of all of those who try to make a living at it. It is better to these purists to look at a smart approach to long term growth for the industry than a company's short term gain.

They are merely voicing this opinion, not bashing Shanelle. Everyone understands that sex sells. With sporting equipment however, it is usually skill at the chosen sport that sells.

Most people want to interject Anna Kournikova as an example. The fact that she made the cut time and time again to play at Wimbledon, the U.S Open, the Australian Open, etc, makes her a world class caliber player. Although she never won a single's event, the fact that she could even play at these venues speak volumes of her ability. This is not to mention the many doubles titles she owns.

I myself have no problem if Cindy Crawford or whatever other super model wants to endorse a can of Pepsi. That's great! I would hate to see the soccer industry want to sell a soccer ball using Cindy instead of Mia Hamm. If I am serious about playing a good game of anything and am going to invest some of my money to do that, I am in just about any sport going to spend my money on what the pro's use.

It did really bother me when I was out in 2006 avidly looking for sponsors turning time and time again to ads in Billiards Digest or Inside Pool and saw industry companies using a model to sell a pool table, or a cue stick. Sponsorships are very hard to come by as a professional player, and it saddened me to see companies in our industry not supporting our professional pool players by endorsements, but instead give this money to a model that looks ridiculous bending over a pool table.

So, in the end, my opinion is that I disagree with a company using Shanelle at this time to endorse a cue stick. She is a spokesmodel at best, which as I have explained, should have no part in promoting a piece of sporting equipment.

There are many attractive women that have earned their way on to the pro tour that have spent countless hours practicing, held back on having families and going to school, and got looked over by their places of employment for advancement because of the amount of time they had to take off to even attend an event once a month. I feel these companies in our industry owe it to give these girls another look, to further support our sport in a proactive way, one that in the end, benefits themselves.

Regards,

Tina Pawloski

I am glad to have another girl "player" posting on this subject. Someone (besides myself) who is a girl, is a "player", and has an honest opinion/insight on the issue at hand. Maybe I'll see you again sometime...hopefully it will be at a tournament, and I would be actually playing in it...lol!!! Kids are still young, and still the priority...waaaahhhh!!!! :p

girlwon1, Tina Pawloski, Well stated reply. Maybe we should be discussing your last paragraph statement:

Instead of Shanelle.

Bob Watson

I was working for my family business full-time and spending my nights and weekends working on my game with an average of 4-5 hours of sleep for close to 3 years. When I decided I was ready to play qualifiers on the mainland, and wanted to make a full-time effort to play professionally, I basically got dis-owned by my family. In fact I did odd jobs just to keep some kind of income. Since, unfortunately, paying your dues without any sponsorship/help means basically losing money...lol!

I remember Tina (back then) telling me of how she wanted to make a full-time effort towards the game as well, but that keeping her job/income for stability was a big concern.......almost like our hands were tied and that we were fighting against all odds...lol, sounds corny I know.

This whole Shanelle situation reminds me of the scene in Jim Carey's movie Liar Liar, when he gets into the elevator with the hot chick. He asks her if she's new to the building and she says she just moved in and how nice everyone has been to her. Carey replies "That because you have big boobs"

Puppy eating? You are owned--FU? There sure is a bunch of juvenile garbage being thrown around in here. Grow up and learn to debate a topic with some intelligence. When you start to attack the person more than their viewpoint it makes you look like the "hater"--the very thing you are claiming that they are. It also makes it appear that your argument isn't strong enough, or that you aren't smart enough to be able to keep it to the topic and facts.

And before you think I'm one of Phoebe or Marissa's friends, I've never said a word to Phoebe in my life, and just finished strongly disagreeing with Marissa on almost the same topic in another thread. I'm just telling it the way it is--or at least the way I see it. Can we get back to some adult sounding discussion?
Are so stupid that you can't read puppy eating hypocrite under marissa's name? Twist it any way you want & keep on hatin

If you want these women sponsored do something about it. This is what pisses me off, quit complaining & do something!!! Pick a player & donate money to her each month. #1 problem you could never agree on who is most deserving. Since Allison is sponsored it should be Karen first since she is the second best player.

And this is what burns me the most. I remember seeing Tina for the first time and being wowed by her natural beauty and the way she carried herself. Wow turns to awe when you see this girl play. She has the stroke of a Filipino and runs a table out with the best of them. She has played and won tournaments yet she couldn't get a sponsor????

I'm not familiar with how Phoebe plays but I have heard good things. And she's beautiful, as well.

With a sponsorship neither would have had to quit playing. It's a huge loss for the pool world.

As long as you know I don't really eat puppies. Phoebe doesn't either. To avoid any confusion, everyone can see fdambi's racist quote in my signature now instead.

Though people may disagree, I don't think we should bash each other. We are all adults and when bashing starts everyone gets riled up. Debates don't have to turn ugly.

Funny you should bring that up Dick. When I was a student at Oklahoma U. we had a vicious thunderstorm one night, and everyone was in a gloomy mood. On a dare I took off ALL my clothes and ran naked up and down the street outside, in front of God and everybody. It felt great! And liberating. That definitely livened things up that night.

Years later my daughter was having her 16th birthday party at our house in Venice, and it was raining. Every one was in a pissy mood once more. So I told the kids the story about my college escapades. Some of them dared me to do it again. This time I stripped down to my undies and ran out into the rain. Pretty soon a few of the guys joined me outside. They still talk about Heather's crazy dad down in Venice.
Pictures or it didn't happen. :D

Have you not realized that she only put that comment there after somebody had the audacity to actually say that to her in the thread?

Do you not get that by putting it there she was basically just making a subtle statement that she isn't going to let nasty remarks bother her?

Do you not get that it's still not ok for you to say it to her again even after she put it up there?

Do you not realize that at the rate you are going you are not going to be around here very long?

I really don't think it's my denseness that you should be questioning...

Is poo-poo the same as doo-doo? (I will never grow up, nor will I ever take a shower when I don't have to! Neva!!)
I keep getting complained about because I called Marissa a puppy-eating person. I plagiarized that from Marissa's own myspace page where she jokes about that stereotype and calls herself a puppy eating person, so it's not like I made it up and vindictively started to insult her with it for no good reason. I think it was convenient for Marissa and her henchman to start attacking that comment because neither of them have been able to put any dent in any of the longer posts I've made about Marissa's hater-mania.
And to make another point, I've never gone off topic in any of my posts. I have consistently and objectively highlighted the attributes of the 'hater extraordinaire' Marissa and her bashing of my future wife, Shanelle Lorraine. And if you've read my clear rants, you'd know the ownage that has taken place, which I am proud of, for I defend the dishonored and protect the misinformed. I'm just trying to win some games.

I got that comment from your myspace page where you called yourself a puppy eating wench. Quit trying to make me out to be a racist. I can't go around hating Asians when I happen to look Asian, you ditz.

I can't decide if you're a prepubescent 12-year-old or just deluded. It is impossible to respond to your longer posts because they're nonsensical.

From my myspace page:
I step on cracks in the sidewalk. That's how I roll. I appreciate random thoughtfulness. I love intellect and sarcasm. More than puppies, and we eat those in Korea. I battle ignorance and stupidity with sarcastic rhetoric. I believe in Karma, which means I can do bad things to people all day long and assume they deserve it. I don't really eat puppies.
The puppy eating comment is obviously a joke. Yours was a racial slur. My friends and I lovingly call each other chink, Twinkie, slant-eye, et cetera. We have to poke fun at racial slurs. If someone like you calls us a slant-eyed chink, that's malicious, and the intent of your "puppy eating hypocrite" comment. You can't hate Asians because you look like one? What does that even mean??

Even if it was on her webpage you couldn't have really thought it was ok to call her a "puppy eating" hypocrite yourself when it would sound racist coming from you, could you?

Even without that phrase, there has been a lot of mean spirited name calling that is not only against the forum rules, but it just plain sounds immature, unintelligent, and schoolboyish. A lot of people say some borderline things on occasion (and almost everybody thinks it), but you seem to step way over that borderline, and in just about every other post too. In your last two posts alone you have used "hater," "ownage," and "ditz," and that's milder than you have been.

It would be a bit more understandable if the thread was about how Marissa stole Shanelle's sponsorship money, but we are only talking about how much somebody deserves a sponsorship. Do you really think the childish name calling is necessary, makes you look cooler, or gets your point across any better? Thats all I'm trying to say.

Serious question here. How old are you?

Apparently Fdambi is a celebrity and former sniper in Nam, has beaten Ronnie Allen and Max Eberle, and endorses Minnesota Fats cues available at your local Wal-Mart and Sports Authority. Most of his posts are spent antagonising other members, including Firecracker, 9 Ball Girl, Joe Rogan, trainer, JAM, Pushout... and that's just from the posts I bothered to look up. He appears to be an adult, although I don't know any adults who use the term "owned", "pawned", or seriously refers to women they've never met as their future wife with the tone of a lust lorn child. It's all so baffling, in an incredulous, "did that really happen" kind of way.
