Willie Hoppe Titlist on Ebay

Looks in good shape...if you zoom over the points looks like they are very faded at the top (Your opinions please). Can't tell what wood it is either...any guesses?

The pics are not good enough for me to see the points, but I think I can see what you are talking about. Some fading is normal for these old cues, the area above the points that looks faded seems to high to be part of the points. I believe the wood is Oak.

it is an oak titlist. My personal favorite.

I bid it up just making it more expensive for someone else....

Wedge the wood appears to be Oak, as far as a good deal like with all Titlist cues it depends what the diameter of the cue is 30 inches from the cue bottom. If the cue is .875 or larger at that point, and the butt portion is straight then yes it is a good deal.

You just never know until the cue arrives for examination, and trust me I have lost a few dollars playing this guessing game!!!!!

Good luck to who ever buys it.

Gonna be expensive

Already up to $281 with 3 days left...this one is gonna go high!!!

Looks like the purple and teal veneers are very faded on the one point shown, which is not uncommon on the older veneers that used water based dyes. God forbid that you were converting it, but when you turn them down they very well may come back to nearly new. I also notice it has a first edition signature and lable. The wood is oak as mentioned by others above. Close-ups of all four points would be nice to ensure the points are intact and unchipped at the tips. I can't decide if weight has been added to it or not. I think I see a plug. It appears to be a fairly nice example of a very early oak Titlist for someone's collection.

Lately this is the most oak Titlists that I've seen up for sale, well, ever...

Oak Titlist

Sold for $340 plus $15 shipping. Prices are going up and up and up for Titlists especially Oak!!!

I lost also

I think you are partially to blame for that :-) Do me a favor and quit bringing these cues to the attention of cue collectors. Your costing me money!

I bid $335 so I was to blame...should have bid higher! Hope you get one soon!

Are you having any converted? If so who is doing the conversion. Would like to see the before and after photot's. I recommend -R- Jerry Rauenzahn. He did a great job on my Oak Titlist.

I was going to convert them myself but I'm sure the oaks would be worth more if done by a known cue maker. Still deciding. For now I'm just going to enjoy owning them. Going to roll around on them like I do with money and women :-)

I have watched and bid on almost all cues you mentioned that were for sale the last weeks but with doubts.
I am looking for an Oak Titlist for a long time and have seen many but having owned and bought and sold many Snookercues, these titlists look more like Ash then Oak.
I am almost certain they are Ash!

I have never seen those curly waves in an Oak titlist, and these are common in Ash cues.
Look at Wedge his cue, no waves there?
Do a search on AZ for Oak cues, i bet you can't find one with those curly waves in the wood!
Not trying to say you bought the wrong cues, just mention my thoughts!
And they still look nice.

Mr Hoppe

In your opinion are these cues that have been selling on eBay oak or ash. I and others are not as versed as you and would like to know.

Thanks

Hi Wedge,
Yes i think they are Ash.
Do you remember the red colored one, someone here also mentioned it was stained ash!
Well all other cues looked like that one, so it is my believe that all cues are ash, also with my snookercue background...

But i guess a cuemaker who does the work on the cue will know.
Maybe some other members can shine a light on these cues and tell it they are Oak or Ash.
Don't know wich one is more rare, but they still look cool...

I bid on two of those cues and lost. That is why I am so interested...but I only want oak...not ash...same as you I expect...I guess we both want to find a rare ebony also!

I was fortunate enough to find a great condition real oak Titlist a few months back from Troy that Jerry Rauenzahn converted guess I should be greatfull as they are very hard to find. I really hope you get one soon as well!

Well they are hard to find, and indeed you were lucky
I am searching for well over a year, a nice ebony would be cool too.
Recently found an ebony but it was so beat up, there was no way to convert it!

I have my brandnew Pete Tascarella Rosewood Titlist conversion coming in this week!!!

Thanks for your interest, send me a pm if you spot a cool titlist that you have no interest in!

Yes, I was the one that mentioned the red stained one was ash. And so are the pictures of the cue above, definitely ash. Personally I think ash makes a tremendous wood for the interior of Titlist cues, as there is a bit of grain to accentuate the wood. It's also a very tough, stable wood. After all, why do you think they make the famous Louisville Slugger, as well as every snooker cue around with it? As a butt material, I would guess it would take a thick finish to make it feel smooth, as it does have that accentuated grain. But it looks good to me.
