The difference is the browns play week in week out together. The players were talking about play together as a team a few days a year. A coach for the browns could get a team playing of given 3 years or so to mould the team around how they want them to play. Since team USA only play this event once a year then it could take Mark 10 years or more to create a winning team. By this point his best players could be past it. And I don't see many youth players coming through the ranks.
When I compare it to snooker you have 15 year old's competing at professional events. World class events at that. Europe is in the same boat. Not many Appleton's coming through the ranks.
I like that mark did take a risk on a young player. And it seems to me he is going about it the right way in that sense. Out with the old in with the new keeps competition healthy within a team. I just don't believe he can get inside the players minds and help them in that sense. That is something a top class sports psychologist could do.
He keeps sticking with Shane. He has not proved him self to be worthy at the mosconi. Either the format doesn't suit him or the atmosphere gets to him. If he was European in sure he would have been dropped this year. You can't have a member on your team who has proven to under perform in the event based on hype and other tournament results that are nothing like the mosconi format. Based on this, I don't think mark is the right man for the job.
