I mean that’s not a crazy take. Shane is on the greatest players of all time, but also historically a poor performer in the MC race to 5. I’m not saying I’d make that choice, but it’s not crazy, IMO.

I went to all 4 days at the last Mosconi Cup, and SVB was the only one who turned up.

Fedor, Sky, Billy and Tyler were an embarrassment.

Shane has a bad Mosconi Cup record because he keeps getting matched up against the best Euro players.

If Shane isn't on the team, then Johan has lost the plot.

My god... we're talking about whether Billy should be on the team... American pool is so hosed. I'd bet on about 500 Europeans in a race to 11 against him.

thorsten beat gomez, hubner beat pijus. alnar beat alcaide, makkonen beat sky. so two high ranked, recent MR event winners lost to these fairly unknown players.

there is no bad seeding here. unlucky draw maybe, but from what i've seen of filler the last two weeks, he's not favorite

Scott and Shane are buddies for sure, but he is definitely a huge Justin Bergman fan.

Bergman at times looks superb, but he hasn't played high-level 9 ball in years on tight tables vs great opponents. He gets done in by brief lapses in concentration, missing relatively easy shots. In as sense he is a bit of a work in progress in WNT events. I still enjoy watching him play and seeing how he thinks, but he's not going to snap off a big event.

Hohmann has been very consistent since he became a US citizen.

Manas and Januarta can't be discounted. They are the best under 20 players in the world.

Manas is maybe the most natural young player I have ever seen. The male version of Centeno - with some of the same flaws. This is the best he's played at a Matchroom major.

I like Januarta even better. Powerful and very fast player, but he thinks more and surveys the table more. Watch his last three racks vs Biado (Day 4 Table 4 at 9:47).

Januarta was down 8-7. He won a safety battle after a Biado break and never let Carlo back to the table. He ran the last three racks and I never doubted he would make every ball.

The good news is, the matches are easy to watch now on WNT TV. Just don’t look at this site and you won’t know the score. That’s what I’ve done this week. You skip through shots and ads.

He looked good vs Yapp and Szolnoki, but Januarta is is playing great. He’s more seasoned in big WNT events. He’s already leaped past Tevez in Fargo and has won a ranking WNT event.

Frankly who is good in a race to 5? Short races favor the weaker player and are not a good indication of anything. You might as well flip a coin
