Women in pool tournaments

I've played quite a few girls, and I've never lost my concentration over how they dress or walk.

I'm there to win, no matter what my opponent looks like.

i've noticed if you "adjust" yourself a lot while staring at them it sharks them way more than they're comfortable with

The first mistake you are making is that you are playing a woman. You should always be playing a competitor. Shes a lady before and after the match but during the match she is a competitor. As any competitor you want to destroy them and beat them 11-0 if possible. This is the only attitude you should have when playing pool to win.

Tap! Tap! Tap! Absolutely right!!

No way is this right! i don't play a lot of tournaments so usually i'm gambling or practicing. i don't want to play a player i want to go out and club baby seals for my cash

At least I got one post from the women. I was hoping for more input from them maybe to bolster my self esteem, by them confirming for me that this business goes on by design. Sometimes I am a bit naive about these things and you can't trust a guy about these women things so its always better to get a woman's point of view.

The guys are spread around the field on this issue and I see that I'm not alone with the problem.

I also see that guys like Roy just don't like women and while that's not my style I'm cool with his "misogynistic ways" (I believe that is the term that one of our learned colleagues referred to).

Try to imagine how the girls have it then, they have to watch us fat, unshaved, smelly men with our a$$ hanging out of our pants walking around the table, while we think we are God's greatest gift to both the world of pool and all the girls :D

Before we start to demand rules for how the few girls in our sport have to dress, perhaps we should start to shave regulary, take a shower atleast once a week, dress in something that is clean and not just "clean enough" etc., and then we might get even more girls to play our beloved sport ;)

I have no problem appreciating the beauty of an opponent while at the same time, leaving her in the chalk dust on the table. Chances are, she isn't going to jump you right in the middle of the match anyway. (Chances probably are she isn't going to jump you after the match either) You might as well go ahead and win the match.

This is a good topic because it bothers me in men and women tourneys. We should go back to the days where people dressed formally. Men should be required to wear capes and women need to wear bonnets. This will make pool a classy sport again and attract thousands of new comers.

This thread reminds me of the time I was playing in a tournament against a woman and she was spending a lot of time trying to get the rack tight.

I appreciated her effort, so when she was finished I said "nice rack". She of course thought I was talking about her breasts as they were shown off by the top she was wearing.

I'm not sure why I bothered to correct her.

Haha...Now that's funny.

I personally have played in several mixed leagues and tournaments. I have grown to play the table, not the player. When ladies(usually older) use other tactics to try to get you to take it easy on them; for example, saying that they have to have atleast two shots or 'x' amount of balls left on the table, it just makes me want to run racks out on them more. I have never fallen victim to the appeal of a sexy dressed woman...(while playing pool)... There was actually a time when I picked up a girl that I beat. We played pool for several hours after the tournament and got nice and loaded up....then commenced a very fruitful evening. I'm just rambling here, but you have to keep your eye on the prize. After the balls drop, look at whatever you want to.

nice try, Joey. Maybe we should just make the women wear burkas and train our kids to be suicide bombers too.

come on, you're better than that.

Whew! That's a litte over the top response, JG.

Having to play a distracting beautifully dressed woman is what I would call a good problem. :D

We should not remove one of the few things that has helped pool have some success and could help pool have more success for the sake of a few guys who are looking for an excuse for every loss.

Honestly I think I've heard more ideas in the main forum that would hurt pool's popularity than good ideas that would help.

These poor men are broke and starving. We need to help make pool more entertaining.

So are you saying you think this is kind of like having to pay the IRS an enormous sum of income taxes?

I guess, you're right, joey. But it's a slippery slope, and that's where that kind of logic can lead you.
I have the same problem with focus when a beautiful girl comes in the pool hall, almost no matter what she's wearing. Guys are just wired that way. I dont mind the torture THAT much. Anyway, maybe for a professional tournament, women should have a "professional" standard of dress, like the men. Nevertheless, i doubt any kind of dress code short of making a pretty girl invisible is going to solve your problem...that's your job.

I have to try to remember if I was ever distracted by a female opponent.
The only memory I could muster wasn't all that distracting.

Not that any of the female opponents I played were devastatingly attractive, some were but most were just female pool players.

Maybe when I was younger and the distraction was more enjoyable... ???

All women are special and are always noticeable when enter a pool room. I am thankful for that distinction.

JoeyA, I love to play great looking women, it gives me more incentive to win just so I can see them bending over and Racking my Balls. That Cleavage drives me wild. I try to keep them Racking just so I can see that, and I am truly in heaven if there is a pot hole on the spot where the balls go and it takes extra long to get the balls to stop rolling off. A tight Rack and a tight RACK go hand in hand.

A female perspective...

It all depends on the woman. I have seen both men and women dress inappropriately for the task at hand, attractive and unattractive. All can be distracting if you let it. Do I find it inappropriate for a woman to play at a competitive level wearing a skirt with a slit all the way to her neck... yes. Do I find it inappropriate for a man to wear a pair of pants that shows 4 inches of crack...yes. Do I find it inappropriate for either sex to wear anything that exposes hairy beer guts...yes. I would guess it is purposeful for some while others just dress the way they dress and are comfortable showing more skin or crack or rolls than others. Personally, I dress very conservative while I play, but if my opponent doesn't, as long as nothing pokes me in the eye, it's all right by me. May even be funny.

Quick story: A couple of years ago my other half and I were at a local bar playing pool. The girl on the table next to us was wearing a really short miniskirt while playing and to my own admission, had great legs. When I asked him what he thought of her legs, he said, "Legs, What legs? She has legs? " What a smart guy!
