Late 80's playing in a bar table event 5K added Country Cowboy in NE?.

First time I ever saw CJ, but this story is not about him. Jerimiah was my opponent.

I'm on the losers side in 9/12th position and playing well.
For some reason they had a referee for our match.
That was odd, a first for me, but I didn't think much of it....

Mind you, no other losers side matches had a referee to oversee their match.

I soon found out why.

Race to 9, was up 7-5 and running out, BUT the ref called a foul on me.

Before I could confront the moment he picked up the cue ball and gave it to my opponent, who went on to win the match.
Found out later, that referee, was in with my opponent.

Another, 8 ball bar table event 100+ players race to 5.

Started on Saturday 10-11 am.

Never lost more than 2 games to any opponent & finished my last match at 1;30 am on Sunday morning winners side final 8.

Welllllllllllllllll, for the first time in my life, the TD decided to have all winners and losers play at 10:30 am Sunday morning, same day I finished my am match.

By 7;30 pm when I got to the finals I rolled over/tired, why did I have to play early, losers side ALWAYS played first on the final day of play?

I had to drive 45 minutes home, sleep, get up, eat, drive back and play same Morning.

I found out later that the TD had purchased my opponent in the Calcutta, which paid 3K.

By 7:30 pm finals, I couldn't' run more than 2 balls, lost in the finals to their horse.

I've got a few more, but tell me yours, when it cost you thousands.

Not near as bad as what Parica got screwed out of at the Clyde Childress event.........19K, but this happens in our world of broke dicks, with no class, cept the money cla$$.

Watch yourself, up and coming good players, it happens often in events that don't have TD's like Helfert/Fleming and thee alike.

Parica actually won the Childress tourney the year I directed it. He beat the huge crowd favorite Nick Varner in the finals. I called a foul on Nick when he double hit the cue ball on a 1-9 combo and the crowd went crazy. They were screaming for my blood! I looked at Nick and said you fouled again and he scratched his head and said I guess I did. Just like that the crowd calmed down. Parica won that match and the tournament and the crowd applauded him in the end. I was relieved.

Those were the days (mid 80's). The place was packed to the rafters, a full house, maybe five or six hundred people in one small arena. Nobody ever left during a match either. They were glued to their seats. I loved working those events. There was always dead silence on a an important shot. You could hear a pin drop. But after the shot was made the crowd would go wild. That was real pool and the people/fans loved it. I'm so glad I was part of that era. The 70's to the 90's was a hey day for pro pool tournaments in this country. I'd still rather go to a good poolroom tournament then one of these made for TV exhibitions.

In the first BC Open, I believe 1985, Dave Howard was disqualified by Gary Pinkowski for commenting that Pinky was a "Little Hitler" at the player's meeting. (I believe he said it at the bar to just 2 other players.) Gary prohibited Howard from playing in the Pro-Am celebrity tournament, where he already had been given a pro-golf partner and a slot on the tournament board. This cost Dave Howard some money.

I was playing a pretty big ring game format event and both 1st and 2nd had 4 figure payouts.

Came down to me and 2 locals in the finals and the one before me was playing safes, the one after me was slow rolling balls to the pockets.

The fix was in! I got 3rd.

Mitch I'm pretty sure it happens in horse racing, cards, casinos etc.
This occurr$$$$ in the business world ''every day''.
Cheating of a referee (being attached to the opponent) is done in horse racing every day ?

I am well aware that the typical CEO cheats every friggen instant they can get away with it.
{Hint: I spent 7 years as a VP watching them}

My last tournament experience was years ago at a now defunct room in I think was in Thornton,Co.on Huron st a few blocks north of 120 Th ave. I cant remember the name.
It just a local deal with a lot of players and the entry was $20 for 8 ball on Valley bucket bar boxes.
So I'm rolling along beating low level players and after 10 hours I'm now facing the better players.
I'm so tired my mind has trouble seeing the correct patterns and my vision at this point was shot and the balls started to wiggle a bit,I'm shot.
Into the 11th hour I finally lose and report it to the desk and start to walk out.
The guys hey you came in 3rd heres $85.00.
Deducting the $20 entry and eating twice I raked in a cool about $45.00 profit.
$4.09 an hour.
That was my last I just cant hold up anymore for those hours.

I agree...........but often my posts at times are not ''spot on''clear, and I was surprised at your comment was all.
When one is borne into a capitalistic society or mankind or a real Gorilla group in the jungle, matter$ happen and at times it may just be missing 1 or more banana$ :).
Just letting players that are up/coming and keep improving what can/will happen. When you go into someone else playground/turf chit happen$$$$$$.

Charity tournament. People running it kept the $.
Doesn't get much worse than that to me.
We have some in CO that always seem to handle event funds for years/decades and recently, being back into the mix raffles for kids etc are occurring.
50% to the winner 50 to the kids.
What I recommend is this............... be the FIRST PERSON TO BUY A TICKET or see that ticket number.....and then be the LAST person to buy a ticket OR MAKE SURE YOU SEE THE NUMBERS ON THAT LAST TICKET.

Count em, divide em by 2 and then find out the payout for the kids w/o them knowing why you asked.

It's always weird to see the same persons/in Colorado, doing this for the past 40 years, and one of em was the TD in my first post.
Hummmmmmmm

What is that saying? Fool me once.......

Playing on the losers side of a trnmnt I had won my last match and waiting for next match. Trnmnt was not well organized so I wasn't worried about it being a while till they called me. Guy I just beat was gambling with another guy I didn't recognize so I was clocking the action.

Those guys got done and I asked the guy I knew if they were going to play another set? He says hey sorry , you gave me the win and then I lost to that guy. You probably would have beat him also. That match had I won would have put me in the money. Player I beat told trnmnt director he won so they had me out of the trnmnt. The unknown player thru a fit when they told him they had screwed up and he had to play me. So I just said carry on it is my mistake.

What is that saying? Fool me once.......
If the first $1 raffle ticket on a roll is #503, and the last $1 ticket number is 2,009.
Subtract 503 from 2009. That number will equal the total ticket count sales of 1,506.
Divide 1506 into 2 which ='s $753.00 for both the kids and $753 for winning ticket holder.

You are the guy that has been fooled for years. No need to explain the math to me. I wouldn't allow it.

Thx for your observations about being fooled ''all these years''.

I do tho, post my name and wonder why others prefer to hide/or is that a foolish word.

Does your alpha dog meaning, carry a fool, or does my Otto Graham pic/program show you I'm the fool?

explain.............
