IMHO, 3 things are consistent in such high level world class tourneys
1) Defending champs very seldom win back to back champ these days in high level world class tourneys. Don't talk tourneys of 50 or 100 years ago where competition is less and you can. FIFA WC used to have back to back champs 50 to 100 years ago but these days almost impossible. Same with World Cup of Pool or W9B
No team has won back to back in World Cup of Pool history and no one has won back to back W9B since Earl 20+ years ago,
2) The top teams that do very well in early rounds do not always get deep into tourney. Vice versa the top teams that play badly or almost lost in early rounds are more likely to end up deep into semis or final . Remember last year when England B Peach/Meiling whitewashed Germany (not just some small minnow team) 7-0 ? Until they met Finland in quarters and that was end of their fairytale. Remember last year when England A Appleton/Boyes whitewashed Indonesia 7-0 in first round ? They were stopped by Taiwan in quarters having to sit for most of match.
It is actually better for teams like Phil and China to face life or death match in early round so that they are pumped up and prepared fast for later rounds rather than have easy early rounds
3) I forgot what is the 3rd thing. Must be getting old LOL![]()
One team to not underestimate is the Germans. Soquet and Hohmann have played together before a few times with really good results I believe. Also, they were on the same bonus ball team so they have that doubles experience also.
Yeah I agree. On so many streams they seem to be more interested in talking about what they, the commentator, would do or would have done. And telling what they believe are clever stories. And talking over each other. You don't hear that in more professional sports commentary, and you don't hear that in the Matchroom events.
The 3rd thing is don't fukc with Pinoys!![]()
Sure, but the reason for that is almost certainly random rather than predictable. With the short races and single elimination format, not to mention that it's 9-ball, the winner is much less predictable and much less likely to be the best team. I think it would be a mistake to say that winning last year actually decreases the odds of winning the next year. It's just that the odds are so much more evenly distributed across so many teams because of the unpredictable nature of this tournament. (And that's not a criticism of the format - I think it's great and I don't mind luck being an important factor at all.)IMHO, 3 things are consistent in such high level world class tourneys

VDB breaks the balls cleanly. 1 and 2 are potted, but Feijen misses a very makeable 3 ball. Chamat and Larsson clear the rest of the rack. 3-2 Holland, Sweden breaking.
