World Cup of Pool 2018 Thread

Matchroom does it right, consistently delivering the best Pool shows for a worldwide television audience. The critics of short race 9-Ball need to watch these shows. Every match has many twists and turns, full of drama, pressure and excitement. The China A match vs. lowly Estonia earlier today was a classic. You could feel the tension as the players had to execute one difficult shot after another. I was also very impressed with the way Austria fought back from a 5-2 deficit against Poland. Albin Ouschan is a real champion, cool as a cucumber under intense pressure. One final thought. This competition demonstrates how popular a sport Pool is internationally. There are good teams competing here from all over the globe and upsets are the order of the day. Pool is no longer the exclusive domain of a few countries. Many smaller countries are fielding excellent teams. It would appear to me that Pool is gaining in popularity worldwide.

I totally agree with you pal. I'm not fond of that one commentator and the info he gives. But overall I have to give them props. Great broadcast and great matches.

Agreed. A short (to 7,8 or 9 or thereabouts) race for high stakes is a totally different animal to a short race without any real pressure. Every single shot is important - as it should be at 9 ball played at this level. Scotch doubles adds a different dynamic too - good to see the very best struggling with the challenges of this format. World Championship and US Open deserve races to 11 from the start but these unique tournaments are a lot of fun to watch.

I watched most of Germany vs China B...crazy match...neither team could get out on their own break for most of the match.

I think the break/jump the ball off the table by Ralf got in his head from there on out.

It also helped that those two key misses by China B rolled safe while Ralf missed on the 3, and it rolled in front of the open pocket, and he had those two safety attempts that set up China B for the runout.

I had to stop watching with China B up 5-4, but the writing was on the wall.

Also:

Is Eckanopolis still playing? I wondered why he wasn't on team Greece.

Wow, that may be the worst I've ever seen.

I feel his pain.:(

Worse than Henderson!

If youse guys lived as close to this guy, y’all would be shaking too.

wow, this Liu from China A is horrible.

Hmmm. I haven't seen that match yet, but Liu Haitao is a top-notch player with many high finishes in big events.

[But he overslept at the World 9-Ball event last year and put Biado into the semifinals by forfeit.]

China A disappointed again.
If the pair keeps playing that way, they don't stand a chance against Spain.

I haven't gotten to watch all the matches yet but the bad teams/players are sooooooooo bad this year, WTF?

Usually Genipool youtube channel does a "Best Shots of " compilation after the event, this year they could definitely do a worst shots one.

Also the poorest attended Matchroom event I have ever seen.

With the Canucks gone, here I am cheering for our closest neighbor, again.
C’mon Shanesky!!!!

Hmm, sounds like I’m cheering for Russia...

Taiwan is looking tough...gonna have to knock ‘em in

So weird, I turned it off when China went up 5-0 and were playing near perfect pool. Sounds like the wheels fell off after that. I was ready to anoint Wu as the world's best player.

Some strong teams....is there a favorite?

Spain and Taipei have been playing really solid. USA has their hands full on that side of the bracket.
