World Cup of Pool Day 2 Updates

Pressure surely showed on that shot by Bashir, he took a lot of time, not sure of himself (pressure).

Agreed Mikey, Waleed been getting around playing on bigger stages past few years. I like his tempo, a lot like Shanes.

He hits the ball very nicely too. He has a top shelf game.

Philippines won 7-4. Will be matching up next with winner of England B team vs Sweden.

I was just now able to watch a replay of the USA match.

I'm not sure what some of you were watching, but MD played really strong...Shane is the one who lost it for USA...

...First shot on the 2 ball, gives Mike horrible shape on the 3 (which he made to give Shane position anyway)

...Give mike terrible shape on the 7 that Mike makes, but scratches cross-side on a slippery table.

...Scratches on the break

...Has a window to hit the 2 ball, but overhits it by 7 feet, and instead of leaving a safety with distance, allows Qatar to see the entire ball at close range

...scratches off the one with Qatar on the hill.

What did MD do poorly (besides scratching off of poor shape)?

I like Shane and I'm not a big fan of MD, but I still think Mike brought a much better game to the table

Poor shape on the 8-ball in Game 3. But Shane saved it with that straight-back bank on the 8-ball combined with caroming in the 9-ball.

But you're right; Shane made more errors than Mike.

MD's biggest screwup in that match was letting SVB dictate his every little move. SVB got right in there and told Mike D where to place the cueball on "his" break, even going so far to argue about it. Mike relented and listened to SVB despite it being really obvious Mike D wanted to put the cueball on the opposite side of the table after he analyzed the rack.

Mike D knows how to read the rack and he knows how to break the balls based on the racks he is given. SVB needed to relax and trust his partner to play his game and make his decision on how he wanted to break the balls.

Instead he got right in there and dictated to Mike what to do and it VERY clearly unnerved Mike and took a lot of Mike's confidence in himself away.

SVB is a great player, but he is "not" a great team player, he never has been.

The Mike D that played in the World Cup of Pool here was a fraction of the Mike D that played in the USA vs the Philippines match and the reason for that is the chemistry that Corey Deuel and Mike had and the way Corey played to Mike's personality and attitude to obtain the BEST out of him. What SVB did in this match is exactly what to do to get the WORST out of Mike D. SVB simply does not get it when it comes to playing doubles and team events and how to actually raise his teammates up, most of the time I have watched him in team format events he actually manages to pressure them up and gets the opposite to occur...
