Ihe Ouschan sblings played last year and were KO and thrashed by Finland in 1st round
Obviously after that the selector/manager this year did a Mark Wilson revamping the team by bringing in Mario He. If the selector/manager retained Ouschan/Ouschan for this year everyone would want his head on a platter.
Once again, thanks for the information that both Ouschans played in last year's WCoP. I found the match on YouTube and watched it. I was kind of expecting Jasmin to be the weak link on the Austria team, but I have to say that I think both brother and sister played pretty evenly.
Rack #1: Finland broke and ran out.
Rack #2: Finland scratched on the break. Austria ran out.
Rack #3: Austria broke and ran out.
Rack #4: With 3 balls left on the table, Jasmin miscued on the 7. She made the shot but didn't draw the cue ball back and left Albin with a cut shot on the 8 in the side (not terribly difficult, but not as easy as it could have been). Albin made the cut shot but left Jasmin with a much harder than necessary cut on the 9 ball in the corner. She missed the 9 and left it hanging in the pocket. Finland pocketed the 9. I'd give Jasmin a larger portion of the blame for losing rack 4 because Austria would have easily won that rack had she not miscued.
Rack #5: Finland broke dry. Austria could see the 1 and make it, although it was a difficult cut shot and getting position on the 2 was just as difficult. The best option was to play the fairly simple safe. However, Albin made the 1 and totally hooked Jasmin from being able to see the 2. Jasmin kicked at the 2 and made a good hit, but left Finland a fairly easy shot and Finland ran the rest of the rack. I'd have to give Albin most of the blame for losing rack 5 because he should have either played the safe or allowed Jasmin to at least see part of the 2.
Rack #6: Finland broke and ran out.
Rack #7: Illegal break for Finland. No decent shot on the 1 for Austria. After a few back and forth safeties, Albin was forced to attempt a jump shot just to make contact on the 2. Good hit on the 2, but the cue took a bad roll and scratched. Finland ran out the rest of the rack.
Rack #8: Finland broke and ran out.
Rack #9: Finland broke and ran out.
Finland wins 7-2.
By my count there were 3 errors that cost Austria games during the match; Jasmin missed the 9 in rack #4; Albin hooked Jasmin in rack #5; and Albin scratched in rack #7. Also the fact that Austria was unseeded last year and had to play the reigning champions Finland in the first round would have made it difficult for any Austrian duo to win that match. After watching last year's match, I think Jasmin deserved a chance to play again this year.
