World Cup of Pool

on no he didn't just play the mothercard !!!

btw ....that's why its spontaneous burst of emotion...

methinks you protest too much.....why not just call him a [whatever] and be done with it.

l thought his celebratory 'goose stepping'?? could use some work, perhaps some there can help him with that

Yes, that look by Lee Van was priceless, but his 8 ball shot from that leave made him the hero. Johnnyt

sometimes when you feel ecstatic, you go gaga, forget the situation you're into and burst out your emotions. an initial reaction to something is almost always right. when you come back to your senses, then you go back to "civilized human" mode.

The best laugh I got during this event was during a match in which several bad racks occurred. When Jimmy explained to Phil that, in America, bad racks are often referred to as slugs, Phil replied "then this is a slugfest."

LOL!

I think he knew he was going to make it though. Tough shot at such a moment, but a cinch for these pro's. Havent seen much of the Philipino team, wil check some of their earlier matches on youtube.

Still crinch when thinking about the chances Niels and Nick had. So close!! But in the larger view I think they played a great tournament and I am proud that they perform so well in the highest ranks of pool.

There is no set rules after you win a world cup. But I can also say that the losing team could also clap and smile with the winning team. It's easy for us to say and notice what we think is unethical, we don't even know the feeling of winning the cup. It's up to them what they want to do first as long as shaking hands after the match won't be forgotten.

what was unethical or out of place celebration was Earl Strickland's dancing on top of the table after bagging the World 9 ball championship against Bustamante several years ago in the U.K. considering that Bustamante's daughter died while he was playing in the London event and playing in the finals with a heavy heart, Earl could have atleast shown some class with respect to his opponent's vulnerable moment. in a way, the match was more of a divine intervention considering Busty was playing marvelous pool and just got unlucky with a decisive scratch, otherwise he could have won it.

what I'm saying is if some people think that Dennis' celebration was too much, I think it was appropriate considering the situation wasn't vulnerable or volatile nor did show any disrespect towards an opponent. it's not like they snob them on purpose which would had been a classless act. they are grateful winners and at the same time respected their opponents.

Their playing for country, World Cup, 30k for them, and 30k for their partner. If that don't make you a little up tight there is something wrong with you mentally. Johnnyt

One of the worst celebrations was the USA in the 1999 Ryder Cup.
They ran around the green after Justin Leonard sank a 40ft putt but Olazabal still had to putt to try and take the match to the 18th hole.

I always remember that one.

I like the faces of Team Holland when Dennis start dancing. Big disappoinment on their two easy misses than Dennis's dance .

It was a great tournament! Matchroom's got it right. Racking the nine on the spot works. You must run out and every rack is vitally important. One mistake can be costly. 9-Ball works in this format.

Special congratulations to Team Philippines and also to Team Holland, who had to beat some damn good teams to get to the finals. Team Philippines had an amazing match with Team Taiwan in the semis, two heavyweights punching it out. It was great TV! It would even play in the USA if any channel would show it. Pool does work on TV, contrary to what some people think. It's a great TV sport.

Good post, I agree.

One thing I'd like to see them try is reduce the shot clock further - perhaps down to 20 or 25 seconds, but then increase the extension time. That way the players have to play quickly but have plenty of time to stew over a challenging shot.

It could work better, or they may already have things right as they are, but I'd like to see them try it.
