The spread ...

of the groupings looks pretty good to me just offhand. I didn't think that Walden made it, but evidently he must won a qualifier for the WO.

This group will truely test the level at which Mike Sigel is playing:

21 Deuel, Corey
Sigel, Mike
Vickery, Howard
Wheeler, Adam
Thornfeldt, Helena

I like Corey for sure to advance.

I am really looking forward to see how Jasmin is doing in the match against Earl Strickland... Think she will beat him!!!

Hope Ronnie O'Sullivan has done some hard practise time, because his group ain't easy...

Pity Luc Salvas and Tony Drago didn't end up in the same group... hopefully they meet during the tournament!!! Could be a fun match to watch. 8 - 7 after 30 minutes ;)

This draw looks better over all than the others. Should be a great tournament. Johnnyt

Group 5 looks to be pretty fairly tough...

5 Souquet, Ralf
Harriman, Danny
Basavich, Daniel
Dominguez, Ernesto
Keller, Ryan

He did. Corpus Christi.
Maybe I'm just old and blind, but, I don't Archer?

Man, they all look tough too me.......after a couple of days there will be nowhere to hid...this should be a great week of pool for us sweaters:)

7 Chamat, Marcus
Juva, Markus
Jungo, Jimitri
Fisher, Kelly
Friend, Bernard

Not a great draw for Bernie, group 5 does look to be toughest

Interesting that Group 11 has 2 women in it. Probably because of Sarah's finish.
It looks like the top finishers from Vegas were fairly evenly scattered throughout the groups. By design??

<<== admittedly has not read the IPT website to see if this question is answered

The players were seeded according to the rankings from the money list (as there has been only one tournament so far it is the same as the finish in Vegas).

18 Hann, Quinten
O'Sullivan, Ronnie
Jones, Jeremy
Parica, Jose
Laurance, Ewa

Group 18 looks pretty tough, Ewa has no chance of making past round 1 imo.

I can't wait for Earl vs Jasmin, Earl better come ready to play!

See? I should have read the website first. Thanks for answering my laziness without flaming me. :)

And here is the way the drawing was done. Numbers were their ranking and qualifiers have a dash...there is no rhyme or reason (alphabetically or chronologically) that I could figure for their placement... a few were seeded by their known ability. You will see some interesting patterns on how the draw was done, though.

I hope you can figure out what I meant by switching directions. ;) And there went all my nice spacing... :(

It would have been interesting to listen in and see how they decided that Wu was 16th and Gallego 37th. I don't have a problem with them being seeded, just wondering how they decided where they should go.

It looks like they set the seeds for each group regardless of whether the player qualified or not. Look at the IPT Ranking List.

The first 40 players are seeded directly into the first 40 groups - Thorstenn Hohmann #1 through Dennis Hatch #40. In the event the player did not qualify, they place the highest ranked qualifier into their place. In group 14, since Rodolfo Luat didn't qualify, they moved Rico Diks from 16 to 14. In group 16, they must have determined that Chia-Ching Wu is the top qualifier that is not yet seeded (that's understandable) and inserted him into the #16 slot.

Here are the IPT rankings for a few of the groups:
Group 1 - 1, 41, 120, 121, 200 (Jim Raney is tied for 199th, so this probably goes to the 200th seed.)
Group 20 - 20, 60, 101, 140, 181
Group 40 - 40, 81 (went to a qualifier since Goran Mladenovic isn't playing), 81, 160, 161

Here's the formula:
The first name in Groups 1 through 40 are the ranked players 1 through 40.
The second name is 41 through 80.
The third name is 120 through 81.
The fourth name is 121 through 160.
The fifth name is 200 through 161.

In the event the ranked player didn't qualify, they inserted a qualifier.

If this is the formula used for every tournament, we can set the groups for the future tournaments leaving blank spaces for the qualifiers. Since the next two tournaments involve only the 150 IPT card holders, the ranking list may need to be adjusted to ignore the qualifiers to create a new list.
