Trying to fall back to sleep last night I was think we got all these Reality Shows, why not one where some unknown Hustlers, cris crosses the country with a couple of hundred bucks a day to take on the local. As pool Room can be like a place a novelist could find characters for any story line.

Just an idea, and I think the human interest part of the story, or the people met in the room would add a lot of color top the story line.

Blair Thein had that idea-It was called the Hustle Bus. He didnt have the funding to keep it going.

Well maybe someone could try it again, like Nat Geo, Animal Planet, or one of the other Networks. Deadly Catch, and Ice Road Trucker are redundant, but both do well.

Started a thread about this about 6 months ago. Just seems like a bad idea for the image of pool is what everybody came up with.

Pools image is bad, some people in Pool Room are not good for Pool, but it is the truth, and maybe would fill the Pool Rooms again...

Yes it would work. Buddy Dennis and I have been talking about that and discussing the fact that no one wants to tune into espn and watch 2 stick figures play pool with no comments and no body remarks. People say that you couldn't go into a place and show the gambling and things, but look at what they did for Professional Poker. Wait a minute, that is gambling. Yes it could work and there are a lot of characters out there in the pool world that could make it interesting....

No

It wont work. It could.
Let me explain. Pool is boring to watch. So is poker. So why does poker work and pool don't. Because poker has good guys (Johnny Chan. Scotty Nguyen etc...) and bad guys (Phil Helmuth, Mike Matasuw etc..) So no matter how boring, you find yourself liking or rooting for someone and vice versa depending on their opponent. Most of the pool promoters want players to wear golf shirts and take public speaking classes. I say let them woof and talk smack. Let people find a villian and a hero. It works for the UFC and Poker. I dont mean WWE style, but quit trying to make it so politically correct. Let it be what it is. Just my .02

So what if they did something like "Friday Night Ring Game". Like 6 players and they bet there money. everyone would get a turn to shoot and there could be commentators to say "oh that was a good shot" and such. Prolly like ten ball. It could be on just broadcast television at night like ten when everybody is watching tv about to go to sleep and it could pick up from there. people first watching it cuz its on but then begin to understand it and enjoy it.

I always thought a show that would work well would be something designed after Hells Kitchen or Ultimate Fighter.

Have 16 guys in a house with a pool table....Have Joe Rogan be the Gordon or Dana....

You could have all types....Pro House, Road (player) House, League House, Ameature House, Girl House, etc etc.

I think the first show would need a real good mix of characters to kick it off.

SVB
Hillbilly
Cory
Freezer
Dippy
Kid Delicious
The Sleeve
Fatboy
Jay
Earl
Grady
Bucktooth
3 others
Me (of course)

have a method of daily goofy challange and elimination competitions....winner gets....whatever.

I like what you're saying, we need more characters into this game for it to be more entertaining, Lets not get angry when Earl the pearl make a scene, lets be honest - sometimes its funny, which entertains people and make bigger audience even if some of them don't like pool all that much, they'll come to watch. We need more of that, like alex higgins back in the 80s, or the guy in Tennis back in the 80s, I can't recall his name, he keeps arguing with the referee, or make funny comments and make the crowd just laugh so hard. impo these are the things that makes more crowd, more audience, more tv shows, and after all MORE $$$ for the game industry as a whole.thanks

There's something already kinda similar to that with the accustats game show. I think a reality show would work but you would have to make it much more interesting than just watching people shoot pool. Even though you and I would enjoy that, it's not what the average person wants to see otherwise it would already be on television. People want drama. Like a previous poster said in poker there's "villans and good guys". There's more to it though. There's the huge amount of money they're playing for and what makes it most interesting to watch is the hole card camera. I think a way you could do this would be to show people traveling around the country betting big money and the struggles they go through on the road. Drama! I do see a problem with showing illegal gambling on t.v. though. Although they do show people doing drugs on the show Intervention. HMMM... intervention. I can see it now. I walk into my living room surrounded by my friend and family for an intervention. My wife says in tears, "Jeff, we're only doing this because we love you and we want you to quit trying to hustle and just admit you're a banger." I might be onto something here.

Perfect example. Watch the Celebrity apprentice. Most of Main Stream America thought of Brett Michaels as a joke. As a result of the show, people got to know him and most fell in love with the guy. Another example is Annie Duke. I used to be a fan of hers. Now as a result of the Celebrity apprentice I cant stand her. My point being if they were told how to act and dress nobody would gotten know them and wouldnt care either way.

24/7 Pool Channel

Cowboy that may be a good idea, I really wish there was a 24/7 pool channel on satellite that had nothing but pool on it, maybe run a few poker tournament's here and there, they could play reruns of pool tournaments all day, and have live streaminng events channeled in on the weekends or when ever, seems like beverage company's could promote that and make money.

.....Hey got an idea, could also have the reality TV pool show on to!

One question...who would the sponsors be? Because without sponsors, there wouldn't be enough money to purchase a roll of toilet paper:rolleyes: Take a look at the sponsors of the "reality" shows already on the market, they're the ones paying for the "commercials"...and see if any of them would fit in with sponsoring a "pool" related "reality" show;) because that's who you'd be going after:smile:

It would have a better chance if they use women pool players. Could have some interesting bets

I think you might see something in the next 6 months or so. Maybe on tv or a webcast. I was talking to Blair Thein today actually, and he said watch out. He's got this pool, poker, pain thing goin and it's almost off the ground. A few of the guys everyone knows some of them you don't. Should be interesting atleast.
