I just received a new McDermott cue from a very reputable ebay dealer. I opened the package and was very excited. It is a 1 of 1 custom
Tulipwood Sleeve, 4 Tulipwood points into a Cocobolo forearm with 4 reverse Zebrawood points.

McDermott Custom 3.jpg

After looking at the cue in hand. One of the Tulipwood points has a crack running the full length of the point (It isnt shown but starts about 1" from the tip to the base of the point. Also all 4 of the Tulipwood points are very ugly (almost look filled in an waver a bit) at the very tips. Return is available, I havnt hit a ball and have 7 days. I just dont know if is as valuable with these issues.

what would u do?

Zud man,

If there is any imperfections that was not describe or was not brought to you knowledge, you should contact the seller.

The crack or imperfections should have been described.

Unless you've gotten a great deal or it didn't cost much, I think you should let the seller know and what he says. I would ask for a refund Minus the S/H if I wasn't happy with the cue and aspects were not described.

I agree with you on this one, however, no buyer should have to eat the costs of shipping and handling (original or return shipping costs) if a cue is not exactly as described. If a seller fails to fully disclose all imperfections and issues with a cue, that seller should be held accountable. Imho, reimbursing the buyer for something that's clearly not his fault is just good business.

Agreed. That's even better.

I am just saying that, if Zud plans to buy and keep the cue and he's not totally happy right now, in the future if Zud chooses to sell it, he will be in a bad position and the future buyer will be in his shoes right now.

So, is it worth keeping and can you sell it in the future?

That's what it comes down to.

It's early and maybe it's my eyes.... but what is the deal with the Bocote looking points coming from the end of the forearm? or am I just seeing things.
Also, I would return the cue based on your observations.

"4 reverse zebrawood points"

I think all ebay sales have return policy mentioned. So return the cue according to the poilcy mentioned.First step is to talk to seller to change the cue.If he is a reputable seller i dont think he would have any problem changing the cue.
Good luck:thumbup2:

Also, you said it is a NEW cue. If so, and you have a sales receipt/registration card, it would be covered by McDermott's lifetime warranty against defects. Many ebay sellers are not true dealers, though.

IMO:
If there is even a small thought that you'd choose to return it and there is the option to do so, get rid of it.

Besides, that is one ugly piece of firewood!

I'LL GO DEVIL'S ADVOCATE ON THIS ONE.

POST A PIC OF THE "CRACK" IN THE TULIPWOOD.

IF IT IS TRULY A CRACK, THEN McDERMOTT WITH COVER IT UNDER THE WARRANTY, AND I'M SURE THE DEALER WOULD ALSO TAKE IT BACK FOR A STRUCTURAL ISSUE.

HERE'S THE DEVILS ADVOCATE PART....... IF YOU SAW PICS, AND CHOSE TO BUY THE CUE, AND IT'S THE CUE IN TEH PICS, I DON'T THINK THE SELLER SHOULD HAVE TO TAKE BACK A NEW CUE. THE DEALER CANNOT CONTROL THE GRAIN OR COLOR OF TULIPWOOD (MOST OF IT IS VERY WASHED OUT)

I'M NOT TRYING TO BE A JERK HERE, BUT I HAVE RETAILS STORES, AND THIS SOUNDS MORE LIKE BUYERS REMORSE, THAN AN ACTUAL WARRANTY ISSUE. BUYERS REMORSE SHOULD NOT BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DEALER.

if it has a crack i would return it,mc d has a lifetime warranty as i understand it.they also have a good reputation,so you will not need to expect any problems

Wow!!!! Just because a guy can't see a crack in a picture you think he should be stuck with it? NOTE TO SELF-NEVER BUY A CUE FROM MARCUS.

YOU BETTER BE BUSTIN BALLS...... IF NOT, NO NEED TO CALL ME WHEN YOU NEED TO MOVE CUES EITHER.

I WANTED TO SEE IT, BECAUSE IN WASHED OUT TULIPWOOD, THE CLOUDY GRAIN LINES LOOK LIKE CRACKS.

I CLEARLY STATED THAT IF THE CUE HAD STRUCTURAL ISSUES THAT IT SHOULD BE RETURNED, BUT I DON'T FEEL THAT IT SHOULD BE RETURNABLE DUE TO BUYERS REMORSE.

Edited post to reflect ball busting. Forgot the wink-phone rang. Sorry.

Thanks and a bit of clarification.

The posted pics are directly from the auctions. The 3 I posted were the best ones of the points. The only one that shows the bad tip was the last (below) and I didnt notice it as a bad point until I saw the cue up close.

McDermott Custom 3.jpg

Ill get a better ones myself today and show em

I just wanted to state, returning the cue is no issue, I have purchased previously with the seller. I like the look of this "ugly piece of firewood" and as it being a 1/1 custom replacement isnt really the best option. I have to really love my cue and these issues were not apparent in ad. I am leaning to the return and put the money towards my next "crush".

Thanks everyone for the input.
