I would play. Pool is fun and $100 really isn't that much for a day of fun in a bar! Hell, I would even buy lunch and a coke while I was there.

Why would you expect a bar owner to add money? I mean it happens alot, Im not saying its a bad thing. But why would you come on here and condemn the owner for not adding money.
If the owner gives you a nice place to play with good equipment and the tournament is run correctly then why should they have to add money?

gimme attitude

Chris,

It's a gimme attitude. An attitude far too many players including pro's have. I have competed hundreds of times with nothing added. I have competed where there were large crowds of paying spectators and I expected money to be added. When the bar owner only has fifteen players or so in a tournament he is making little more than he would make without the tournament, might even be losing business tying up tables that are normally open to challenge. I have seen one challenge table hold twenty or thirty customers for a bar.

Since the bar owner isn't taking a cut of the purse, what matters is how many players he has, not the entry fee. His take is the same if the entry fee is $10, $100, or $1000. A tournament that draws less than twenty players isn't worth much added money.

Regardless, added money is nice but it isn't an entitlement.

Well most of the tournaments in the Valley are money ads, like $7.00 For entry on Big Tables, and the bar take a $2.00 Green Fee, and adds $5.00 Bucks a play so they are 200% Return. Or $5.00 Entry, Splitting Quarter, and the Bar again adds $5.00/ Player for a 200% RETURN. That is typical in the Valley. Players also buy Food, and Drink so the establishment makes out.

I totally understand easy-e as you are one of those who don't mind paying $4.00 for a $.50 Cup of Coffee because it is in a

I play in a small bar tourney once a month. $10 fee with full pay out and the tables are free. 24 players max. A bar doesn't get much mark up on alcohol
and maybe the profit margin is a bit better for pop and coffee. Its just a way to get people in on a normally slow day. If the owner is expected to add money, then there goes the profits. I get 3 games guaranteed for 10 bucks, have my share of beer, eat and its a great way to kill 5 hours on a Sunday. Its all good.

Blue Hog ridr you stated, "A bar doesn't get much mark up on alcohol "! Have you ever ownned a bar, or do you know something my Bar Owner buddy does not.

Bar make Huge Profits on Draft Beer, and Hard Liquor Drinks.

Ok, ya got me, I lied.
I also live in Canada, bar owners don't get great deals on alcohol. They purchase from the Government.
Or do you know the pool hall owners where I play better than I do?

How bout'

no if the owner is not adding money and making quarters I say no. If the tables were free yes with out a doubt.

How bout if the entry was $120. Which included a $20 green fee with open tables?

House adds $200.

Does this sound better?

Pool players are being narrow minded. Show me other sports that have added money. (Not outside sponsorship.)

A bar or pool hall has a LOT of expenses - and so many of the better players drink water and cokes. So that is why a lot of places cater to the mid-level players. Better players are often hard on the equipment and it costs a lot to keep good tables in good shape.

Go to a bowling alley and $2 per line. And they usually take from the pot - not add.

Too many players want too much. They need to go runa business for awhile and see how they like it. Enough of the 'rhetorical questions' OK???

Here's a guy that's been there AND done that. Listen to Mark people!

I find it humorous that this question is asked by a guy who will only play in an $11 max Tourny and probably never cashes.

The number one thing most players want is to have a good time and be treated fairly.

Why complain about a Tourny that you will never play in. No matter what.

For a Bar Pool Tournament if the Bar was Not Adding ANY Money, Plus Charging a PER GAME FEE, and NOT Guaranteeing a First Prices amount of Money?

I SAY NO!

If I thought I could hold my own against the competition, you betcha.

If I thought I was outclassed, then $11 is the max.

Ray, Scott and Mark, you have to understand, CoCo is NOT really a pool player, persay.
He is someone who lays awake nights thinking what stupid, inane thread he can start on AZB.
At the $25,000 added Desert Shoot-out, when most of the top players in the world were in town, CoCo could be seen peering thru the window. ( He wouldn't spring for the $20 cover chg.) He did badger them for autographs and pictures when they came outside for a break though.)
Please do not judge everyone in Arizona by CoCo's controversial, well thought out posts here on AZ. Most of us are normal.

Dick

PS> I know CoCo can be hard to take, but on the plus side, I don't think we have even ONE "Aiming System" thread starter in our fair state. How normal is that ?

I love G Cue, because no money is taken out & no green fee. I am spoiled.

I love Bigtruck, because he runs the best mid-level tourney in TX. Always a lot of players at this event. I can't wait, Ray.
