wowsers....I know some might say it's a bad thing, but how do they play? I mean would it be a good cue for someone starting out?? For $150, why not? Most know his history, and what his eBay 1/1 cues did to his former customs value....but can you even get a McDermott like this one for $150?? If they are garbage then they're garbage, but is some of the negative press on these sour grapes from Dale's "customs" owners? Just curious....
I am well aware of all the negativity w/ DP. I had one one of his pre-ebay cues-paid about $1,500. I also had one of his early ebay speadster wrapless cues. And I got to tell you, they BOTH played well. I keep the ebay cue long after I got rid of the other cue. He was only making 2 or 3 a week for ebay back then, so maybe the qaulity has dipped since then.
I consider his cues a production cue at this point. If his qaulity is the same (forget looks, inlays , and points) or playability is the same, then other than a schon, there is no better 150-200 cue on the market.
If I only had 200 to spend on a cue and I couldn't find a schon, I would be tempted to go with a DP.
Anyone try a recent one? Is there a drop in quality.

I have a dale perry one of one..and its one of the most beautiful cues i have seen..now that just my opinion... i have a OB1 shaft for it and it plays jam up. I have had several people offer me three times what i payed for it. I just cant part with it. I have had it for about a year now..and dont see me changing cues unless i get off my ass and put an order in for a Bloodworth!!!
No lie: I have a friend who just bought a Dale Perry off ebay, and it seemed like a pretty cue.
Long story short, he had to draw a ball to the end rail, and *POP* the shaft flew off with the pin attached.
He was so scared, and Lord knows I couldn't say anything, as he thought he was taking a step in to investing in his game. Had he told me that he was looking in to a Dale Perry cue, I would have fully suggested otherwise. Just my experience.

Hey good for him. If he puts out $100 cues and people suck them up like crazy - is that a bad thing? Glad he's making a living.

That's one of the things I have said about him. At the end of the day he needs to make money to make ends meet just like you and me. If he is able to do that by doing something he enjoys...double good for him.
He is probably making more selling low end cues than he was selling high end cues just because of the volume he is producing. Yes his cues are fairly generic and repetitive now, but that is also reflected in the price. I have two that play great, with a great hit and balance. For the money I paid I wouldn't choose any other cue.

Some time back (February 7th) I emailed him a question using eBay's message service about a cue he had up on eBay. I wanted to know if the cue was a full-splice, and if not, if he had full-splice cues available.
To this date (February 25th) he hasn't even afforded me the courtesy of a simply yes or no answer.
Can't say as that's impressed me.

At $150, the cue is a steal unless it simply breaks in two during normal play, like was described by one poster. Building that cue for $150 is getting paid like $.75 per hour. 1/3 of the cost is materials. I hope it works out for him. We need a good American production company that keeps competitive pricing. Huebler isn't doing it anymore, or at least I haven't seen anything from their shop in a long time. So there's room for somebody to step into the spot. Would be a wise business move for him if he has the capacity. That's a great looking & seemingly well made American cue for the price of a Players or Action.
At that price, it's worth picking one up just to see for myself how good it is. Even if it doesn't become my new everyday player (not that I get to play everyday 
), it should still be a decent backup cue or something to use in rooms with questionable clientele. If push comes to shove, it would be a really nice bridge cue.
