🔊 Important Notice for All WPA Licensed Players 🔊

The WPA wishes to remind all licensed players of the serious consequences of participating in unsanctioned events. In particular, we draw your attention to the upcoming Hanoi Open scheduled for October 2024, which is an unsanctioned event.

We urge all players to comply with the regulations listed below, to avoid any disciplinary actions that could impact your professional career and participation in future WPA events. For more detailed information on the terms and conditions of the WPA player license, please visit https://www.wpapool.com.

Protect your license and your future in the sport by adhering to WPA regulations. Thank you for your attention and cooperation. 🙌

the pool players need to form their own group that actually sticks together. mostly the top players. then they can dictate to some extent what they can do and not do. otherwise they are just pawns in the two big association/companies that run the big tournaments.

and that also means that any new tournaments are not able to grow or progress as it cant get entrants of any ability to draw spectators.

this is basically a monopoly or duopoly that is restraining the ability of pool players to make fair and their own choices.

if they dont stand up over more time they will keep getting squeezed.

in most sports if the leagues keep you from playing elsewhere they pay you a salary that you get to negotiate. instead in pool all you get to do is pay an entry fee to play.

I'd like to know who's the idiot that schedules the US open, Pan American championship, euro turo men and womens chamionship in the same week.

I think what you speak of is a players union. Since they are not on salary they can form a semi-union. All top 50-100 players form an organization.

These tournament organizers will have to pay the players’ organization for them to show up.

Can all players get together? There will be some defectors if the payouts are good.

Other than that all open tournaments are just that. An open to all.

you have no power. Matchroom has the events and the money. Stop trying to pretend like your bigger then you are. You’re not relevant any longer and trying to act like tough guys is making your position weaker.

These players are free agents. You aren‘t paying them . They have the right to play anywhere they want to earn a living!

This reeks of the ACBS. They tried everything possible last year to get the event cancelled by the host city as well as played hardball with Asian players.

yes, obviously the work of ACBS. but it's kind of parodic at this point, the WNT signed players make up a huge majority of the top 100. i think this will affect like two polish players, if even that

Wait a minute, a couple months ago the WPA said they were (paraphrasing by me) ok with MR, and would "treat" their events as sanctioned, even though they are not.

Is this letter simply asking the players to send for written approval by the WPA to play in the Hanoi Open? Or is it stating they can't play at all? Or something else?

Looks like WPA is returning to its obstructionist tactics. It will be interesting to see how they point the finger at Matchroom as the one blocking the path of pro pool's growth. They always find a way to blame someone other than themselves for steps they take that threaten the game's growth.

The only organization that ever had any really serious possibility was the IPT with Trudeau, it looked for a moment like something was going to finally go right, then it blew up. Now, with so many international players at the top, I think it will be 10 times as hard to get everything organized so people can play in their own areas and still be in an organization.

After watching Matchroom's production on this opening day of the World pool championship WPA seriously needs to figure out how to get along, or they will be left behind on the outside looking in.

except for that one tiny issue and that was Trudeau being a complete outlaw fraud artist.

if the players dont stand together they will always get second best results.

anytime you have one or two controlling the hundreds of pro players even without paying them, then you have problems now and in the future.
