Thank you very much SJM, I really appreciate that.
Very welcome. Other than Tiffany's impressive advance, a big story this year on tour is that Allison has opened up a huge lead in the race for #1.
Still, surely Kelly Fisher's dramatic rise in the rankings, all the way to #13, is the big story this year. Kelly is likely to become the first player since Karen Corr to crack the top ten before becoming a WPBA touring pro. This has a way of creating unusual situations. For example, at the 1999 BCA Open, my very close friend Gerda Hofstatter had the misfortune of drawing Karen Corr in the first round. Corr was already about #10 in the rankings and already considered among the five best players on tour by most, but she was not yet a WPBA touring pro, she didn't get the advantage of being seeded. Sure enough, Gerda got beat, but Gerda then proceeded on an almost unfathomable ten match winning streak to reach the final against Allison Fisher. Although Gerda lost that one, she showed SOOOOO much heart that week in Vegas, and, sure enough, she prevailed over Allison in the 2000 BCA Open final a year later.
Of course, you saw the same this week in Michigan City. Julie Kelly, ranked #4, and, consequently, accustomed to a good draw, had the misfortune of drawing Kelly Fisher in the first round.
I'm sure all of the Top 16 look forward to the day when they don't have to worry about drawing Kelly Fisher in either of the first two rounds!
Very interesting WPBA season so far.
