WPBA Pacific Coast Classic - October 1st - 5th, 2008

What are these back roads you speak of?

You forgot to add that the drive is generally at midnite on backroads through a forest, fog and rain.

I'm not sure how you are going that takes backroads to get there. The quickest way to get there from the airport involves taking Highway 18 which travels through some rural and forest areas but is 2 lane highway. It's about a 2 hour drive from the airport unless you hit rush hour traffic.

How many gas stations the last 50 miles? You obviously know the area- I was only there 3 times and my memory is lacking but i do seem to remember a long, wet, lonely stretch of nothing plus fog and rain. :)

Of course after 10+ hours of traveling no 2 hour dirve is welcome.

Well, K. Corr, Helena T., and K. Fisher are already on the 1-loss side, pius a few more that don't usually see themselves there this early. The talent is getting brutal on the WPBA Tour. It seems to get stronger each tour stop. And it would be a lot worse if Jasmin was there. I love it. Johnnyt

PS: Anyone know of any other new players getting ready to come over here to try and break into the WPBA Tour?

I don't know of any new players getting ready to play over here but I would like to see Sabina Dederding (Switzerland) the 2008 EPC women's 9 ball champ (gold) - in the mix as she beat both Kjoersvik and Jazz this past August in Willengen Germany . Both Jazz and Kjoersvik did well in the last WPBA tournament so Sabina must be a solid player.

Sabina is a good player, but not at the level of Line and Jasmin. Charlotte Sorensen is almost at their level, but not quite there either.

Eylul Kibarogly from Turkey is only 19-20 years, and she won suprisingly the European 9-ball Championship last year, 7-6 against Line Kjorsvik in the final. She was playing superb pool in that tournament, but hasn't performed well in any big tournament since. But after that week I know what she is capable of, and she can be the next big thing from Europe, if she can be more consistent.

I'm sure more champions will come out of the woodwork next season. I do see a lot of the bottom half of the WPBA starting to drop out or at least giving it serious thought. I also see 5 or 6 of the bottom seeds rededicating themselves to practice more...and it shows. For the ones that work a 40 hour job it has to be hard to get in 4-6 hours practice after work and maintain the focus needed at that level. Johnnyt

Melinda (OMGWTF) went two and out. That sucks. A 16 hour drive each way plus gas, hotel, food. I'll bet she was beat from the travel too. If that was me, I'd cry. She has to love pool to go through that to play. Get home safe Melinda. Johnnyt

How could this happen? I even crossed my fingers, tows, arms and legs....

Oh well, I still got one horse still in the race! Go Line Kjorsvik!!!

Don't forget the $500 entry fee!

Are you guys talking about Melinda Huang? I really like her. I only saw her on that show that was GameShowNetwork a few years ago (one of the hosts was Ewa Laurance). She seemed to have a great personality and I liked her style.

Nice win for Michelle Rankin, 9-8 over Jennifer Chen. I saw her sister beat Liz Ford, I think this might be her first pro event, so good for her. Liz is tough!

You mean she did them a favor and filled a spot and they made her pay? :frown: Johnnyt

Actually they gave her a favour, getting a shot at winning 12 000 - 15 000 $, without even qualifying. And if she would have finished high she might even grab a tourcard for next year...

Of course she should pay the entryfee.

No.

There is no way a tomato-can is going to win the tournament.

They might luck themselves to victory in 1 or 2 matches, but its not going to last in the long run, ESPECIALLY with the top player in the WPBA being so far above the rest.

The only way your going to have a clearly lesser player snapping the whole thing off is if there is collusion.

She helped fill in the empty spots and rounded out the prize money for the elites of the tour.

You make a good point Roy...I'll split the difference with you, she should have paid $250....I'm never totaly wrong:grin: Johnnyt
