It's almost impossible to pick the winner anymore, at least for me. There are at least a dozen of them that can win it now. The days of picking Alison and winning your bet more than not is OVER. It makes for some real enjoyable pool. Bring on the PPV streaming. Johnnyt

JT,
It's sad; but perhaps they shouldn't even have a "winner" - perhaps just announce these events as exhibitions, and give a list of the players with only one loss. Or perhaps paper/rock/scissors would be a better way to resolve the issue.

I don't understand why people get so upset over the format, considering it was voted on by the players. Also, there are a lot of sports where when you lose once, your tournament is over. Or, there's formats like Nationals, where there's a round robin, then a single elimination. Same circumstance where you can play well, have a bad day, and be done. It's the nature of all sports.

I'm so torn. I've always been Vivian's fan because I always root for the home team and I would love to see her win again. But at the same time, I've always loved Monica's game and I think she's due to win. Its just a shame they have to play each other.

While I am completely rooting for Vivian (my favorite player), if she does lose to Monica, I hope Monica can finally pull out a tournament win.

No sillier than baseball. The LA Dodgers had a .519 winning percentage, the 15th best winning percentage in baseball this year, and yet, here they are a step away from the World Series (strangely enough, I find myself rooting for them).

I think WPBA competitors should be rewarded for going undefeated in the rounds leading up to the final. My recommendation would be to give undefeated players two games on the wire in the round of sixteen. That wouldn't solve everything, but it would be a big step in the right direction.

How about the World Soccer Championship? They play groupstages, then single elimination...

It's the same in a lot of sports. I don't understand the complaints...

sjm,
Call me a purist (or send me a membership card to the Purist's Society); but I find the baseball/hockey/NBA "wildcards" silly as well.

In addition I lost all respect for baseball and records when they lowered the pitcher's mound after Denny McLain won 30 games. As far as the designated hitter.......fuhgggggeddaboutit - what a joke. At least the Mets are in the NL.

RS,
If the WPBA did group stage round robins, THEN single elimination - that would be GREAT (......but they don't).

If they played races to 11 or 12 or 13 that would be GREAT (....but they don't).

If their purpose is to provide an entertaining exhibition, they are succeeding admirably.

If their purpose is to identify the best player each week, they are falling well short of the mark

If their purpose is to identify a "Number One" player; they are woefully short of the mark.

Fans that don't care about these issues will not see any problem; it's their prerogative. Unreasonable fanatics such as myself hurt a little bit when we see how far short they fall from what could be a great game. I still plan on attending every tournament that I can.

Now that's a good idea. Johnnyt

They do have the group stages then single eliminations for Nationals. At least, that's what they did last year and I think they're doing it again this year. However, it's less people that get to play. In regular tournaments, there are 64 players. Only the top 48 make Nationals.
