WPBA Tegional Tour Championship Question

Yu Ram Cha walked through the WPBA's RTC over the weekend with no one winning more than 4 games against her. She is ranked #20 in the world and she was playing against a field of regional players who earned the right to play in this tournament by playing on the regional tours.

Although I don't follow every regional tour, I've never heard of Yu Ram playing on one of these tours.

Can anyone tell me which regional tour Yu Ram played on to earn her way into this tournament?

If I remember what they were saying during the match I watched, she hadn't played WPBA in a long enough period of time that she was required to play in a qualifier to get her "tour card". That is why she was there.

I'm sure someone will better explain it in later posts.

The RTC is not only for the top women in the regional tours. Invites also go to all the pros who didn't earn enough ranking points for exemption. That is why Yu Ram Cha was playing in this event.

I heard they had to change the name of the tournament because they invited pros for the first time. Can't call it a Regional Tour Championship if pros that didn't play on any regional tour can play in it.

Who was that girl from Long Island, NY in the booth? Can she preform all those shots that she thought Yu Ram Cha and a few more PRO's should have done? She must be a great player, although I've never heard of her. I've heard of Yu Ram Cha though.. Johnnyt

Yu Ram Cha ws allowed to play because she was ranked 62 at the end of 2010.

Due to the reduction of field for the WPBA, many previously ranked pros lost their ranking and due to this, the players ranked 41-64 were given invites to this event without participating in a regional tour. Many of these players would have lost their WPBA spots and had been unable to compete in a regional tour in 2010 due to their previous WPBA ranking. I think it was the fair thing to do since the WPBA made the field reduction without early notice to the players and the regional tours to account for this change.

All of the WPBA ranked players participating in the event in Houston had actively participated in the WPBA in 2010 except for Yu Ram Cha. I heard a rumor that she was unable to compete in the WPBA in 2010 due to visa issues, but I am not sure of the validiy of that rumor.

Rich,

It was my understanding that because YRC didnt participate in enough WPBA stops, her tour status "expired", forcing her, and anyone in her situation, back to the RTC tourney to "requalify". I think this is required of any WPBA touring member that isn't in the top 40.

*edit- Firecracker beat me to it...

Here I thought I beat everyone to it. Apparently I'm the most "Ignored" person on AZ, who knew?

Yu Ram Cha was stealing and it kinda sucked to watch her not only snatch a spot from one of the other ladies but also get a free $3k for winning an event where no one even came remotely close to winning.

With that said...congrats to Susan I still feel like she is the winner of the tourney.

Bobby Rone also threw in an additional prize which is to pay for the winners (yu ram cha) airfare and other expenses as well as entries into the Texas State Championships that are also going to be at Bogies. So at the end of the day this little trip might prove to be very lucrative for Yu Ram Cha.

I will concede that some will view this as stealing. It's just not very often that one of the "upper-crust" pros falls low enough to lose their exemption, so Yu Ram Cha had to play in this event to get her exemption (tour card) back. From what I saw on the stream (I bounced between watching the RTC & the GSBT event) Susan & Joanne both played very well.

Don't forget last year the WPBA had very few events to begin with, just a sidenote.

As for YRC she had to requalify, at least she did not get an exception because of who she was,

Are they moving the Texas State Championship to Bogies? I thought that Skinny Bob's was the host, they have the past two years!

I like how she explained during the Brianna Miller-Susan Williams match that if we heard her referring to one of the players as 'Bri' that is her nickname for Brianna Miller.

I think it was Erin McManus?

You betcha. Her commentating hasn't really improved at all. They need to keep her out of the booth. Quite a few times I heard her saying what she would do on a shot & I was like "Are you kidding me?" BTW, I wonder if she's learned what the wing ball is yet.

Next big event in TX, I want the booth to be comprised of BigTruck, akaTrigger, & mandalamps. I prefer it when the commentators know how to play.
