on Valentine's Day @ 9:30EST - we had better be doing something other than watching pool....no offense.

but out of curiousity for others - from the $10PPV - what % is going direct to them?

.

From the charity website, their Mission Statement:

Mission Statement
RAPACD, a 501c3 Non-Profit Volunteer Organization, is composed of dedicated and committed Community Leaders who make a difference and a positive impact in Southern Nevada by striving to:
1. Represent and serve as Advocate for the Asian Pacific American community.
2. Raise awareness of Asian Pacific American social, cultural, socio-economic, and civic issues.
3. Increase cross-cultural understanding through communication and coalition-building with other communities.
4. Inform Asian Pacific Americans regarding health and wellness programs, local medical mission, youth leadership conference, voter’s registration, citizenship workshop, community and consular outreach.
5. Establish the first-ever Asian Pacific Islanders Cultural Center to perpetuate, embrace, and celebrate our diversity.
6. Coalesce with all API communities and organize a plan to ensure another successful Census Campaign for 2020.
7. Engage. Educate. Empower. Inspire!

This seems like a good group, but their focus seems to be on serving Asian-Americans living in Nevada, not providing relief funds to Filipinos. More details would be good, like what percent of the proceeds? And why this group rather than the Philippine Red Cross or other agency directly involved with relief efforts?

This paragraph might better explain:

RAPACD was founded by Filipina Salve Vargas Edelman and is an organization based in Las Vegas, Nevada whose motto is to “Engage, Educate, Empower and Inspire”. The charity is located at the RAPACD Cultural Center at 3337 and 3339 West Washington Street (between Baker St. and Washington Ave.) Las Vegas, Nevada and inside the historic Lorenzi Park. Their primary mission is to represent, serve, and advocate on behalf of the Asian Pacific American community within the Las Vegas area. Previously Vargas-Edelman has coordinated a medical mission which provided aid to thousands in need in the Philippines. With the devastation unleashed as a result of Typhoon Hiayan also known as typhoon Yolanda, the RAPACD Director said: “As a Filipino Community Leader, it is my duty and responsibility to mobilize the entire community, and to collaborate with other Asian Pacific Islanders Community Leaders to donate and collect balikbayan boxes (corrugated shipping box) which contain gently used clothes, medical supplies, nonperishable food, canned good, toiletries, shoes, etc.”. Vargas Edelman’s Charity has collected over 60 boxes and are still collecting! Proceeds from the WPBL event will be used to ship the boxes and purchase more needed items like vitamins, food, blankets, etc., which will be distributed directly to the indigent families!

considering that:
- a 40ft container is 270 cartons @ 3x3x4ft
- $3K freight from Long Beach Port to Phillipine Port @ 20 days On the Water time (more, cause it's Chinese New Year)
- $800 fgt from NV to CA port & 3 day transit time
- and otherwise to find a freight forwarder to consolidate a small amount of cartons for you & 2-4 wk delay in ETA being a logistical nightmare
- i would suggest that it'd be more cost-effective & efficient for them to:

call the Red Cross for free pickup & let them eat the cartons & freight costs....

(they've already dropped >300 TONS of supplies)

and for the 3RD TIME: WHAT % OF PROCEEDS FROM THE PPV ARE GOING TO THEM?

I think that you're wasting your time here Pinky.

I don't know for sure, but if I had to guess and I do hope that I'm wrong, I'd say that they're more concerned with trying to create a little positive PR for themselves rather than actually helping anyone else. JMHO

Laugh all you want, but BB will get more publicity out of this than traditional pool has gotten in the last ten years combined.

Pool is the only sport -- major or minor -- that doesn't regularly do charity events.

we were the auditors for United Way, and outed them 20 yrs ago for - well let's just say "misappropriation" - resulting in the CEO resigning.

and now that i've been shipping 20 containers/wk FOB: China to Long Beach & Miami ports for the past 12 yrs, plus cross-country LTL freight daily, and have a wholesale acct w/ BoxBoard Products....

i would hope that Bonus Ball can decifer, that i'm trying to help.

;)

Typical, Bonus Ball people/fans makes a statement and when the hard questions come like how much to the actual charity it goes very quiet. As if by magic POOF! they are gone again.

I know the OP is not saying they are with Bonus Ball but there is some connection. Bronze member and pushing BB. Hmmm

Are you serious? 10 years combined??? Where do people come up with these statements they just spew out.

There are charity events in pool all the time --- Michael Strahan has a big one each year.

And this won't even get a notice by any press outside of maybe the pool world or local LV news, if they are lucky.

You are fully out of the loop if you think the blowit ball people have done any due diligence on the matter.

They haven't and that is why they neither comment., not realize that they are 'fund raisin' for an organization that seeks to serve people in vegas.

The joke. Continues to write itself.
