I am somewhat suprised that no one yet has mentioned Chris Byrne. Chris makes excellent hitting cues, and his eye for detail is awesome.
Chris also recently fronted a cue rally to raise money for charity. Investment wise, i am very sure that CB cues will prove to be excellent. Many factors contribute, but the fact that Chris builds superior equipment, in a beautiful package, as well as sponsoring some of the best looking female pros, as well as being associated with positive things such as charity.
Most important of course is the cue itself, and how availale the 'brand' is. Chris does not build a lot of cues, but the ones he does build, are among the best hitting, and most beautiful cues money can buy. You wanted to know who, so i told you, and also added why.

Greetings from the place God forgot to grace with heat.

A lot of people know Mike Erwin out of MS as he makes a pretty mean cue. His son Scott Erwin has been working with Mike for a long time and I've seen a few of his own signature on some pretty darn nice cues. Scott Erwin may be someone to keep an eye for sure.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Randy Mobley. His cues hit as well as anyone's and are put together with purpose.

tommy i think they are the best investment you can get from a cue....however getting one is almost impossable and they are allready high priced......i love mine and will be looking for another this coming year...the best hitting cue i own....i would vote for randy but i dont want anyone else looking for his cue as they are allready hard to find...

I think Jerry -R- Rauenzahn makes a helluva cue and is a sleeper in the crowd; Mike Johnson is another fellow who makes some extremely nice cues; Bob Frey might jump out and suprise you too; Billy Webb is another fellow that comes to mind as well ~ lotsa talented folks out there as mentioned....just need the economy to start perking up a little bit (soon/please/thank you) :smile-square:

Last time I saw Jimmy he was up at the top of the windmill nbehind my house watching his dad being chased by a Longhorn steer

I hear from barry that Jimmy is learning the business, working side by side with barry

i hope barry continues making cues for a long time,at least long enough to make mine

then i wish him a long and happy retirement with lots of grandchildren like me

Travis - Blackcreek Cues. I sketch it out on paper , he makes it happen. Always delivered on time.

Not really sure I have ever been on time but always try to make sure they are worth the wait

Have yet to ever be disappointed. The rosewood cue is by far my favorite cue that I have ever had commisioned from anyone. By the way i hear you may have your new machine up and running?

I didn't know Randy was considered up and coming?? He's been building cues for 2 decades supposedly.

Haskin & Haskin

I think haskin and haskin are very nice cues..... They are from south texas.... The prices on there cues are very cheap for the quality and work they put in the cue..... They have a verg soild hit... Www.thecuemasters.com

Robert Harris cues... When you see some more fancier ones I'll have coming out it will be clear why I said this. There's 3 you can look at and get an idea that I have posted titled, Custom cues at introduction prices..

Leon Sly should be definetly be on the list

I think Leon Sly should have been mentiond , his work is Really nice .

I would go along with you also Jim, Leon is putting out some outstanding cues now , but even in the past I can say I was always pleased with his work on his cues. << ED

Thanks

I think what the OP is asking is what cuemaker in the average price range is the next Szam of the future, i.e. something in the $1k range now, untouchable ten years from now...? Impossible to say. The best bet is a maker who has a low turn out, makes very unique well-regarded cues or has a special construction technique. That pretty much narrows it down to Murray Tucker, Scott Gracio, Tony Zinzola and Darrin Hill. IMHO one of those guys will build/has built a cue that will be the "Golden Bushka" a decade from now. I'm old enough to remember Szambottis at retail...highly regarded cues, but no one saw the boom that came after he died. It's just impossible to say who the next 1,000 percent appreciation maker will be.

You brought this back into perspective with this post. Key to this OP's quesiton is major appreciation. This could happen for up and coming makers or established makers who don't command top dollar today. No one has mentioned Paul Dayton. His work is great and his cues hit rather well. Another one is Kelly Cues. Lot's of cue for your money. But who knows if either will someday command Searing or Hercek dollars. Part of the fun of buying cues.

Regarding cues as a sound investment, I say bulls*t. Try to cash out of your rather large return. The cue market is not like the stock market. Buy cues because you like them. But you should come up with a better investment strategy.

RICK HOWARD I was in a tourney not long ago and after my match, a guy from atlanta (good player) says " I can tell that is a good cue, it sounds awesome " Rick is a perfectionist - get them if you can....

JEFF OLNEY Perfectly balanced, excellent work....

Cues and Investment...really don't mix well. After you factor in inflation..and if you consider the resale value of cues...you better off choosing a different investment vehicle. Try selling the cues you own now and you'll know what I mean.

Duc.
