I know this is a oldie, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents for what its worth...
The best advice I was ever given in regards to watching/learning position or other play (goes double for masse' & break and or trick shots) from videos or in person for that matter is: IF your are right handed, do not try to emulate Mike Sigel/Steve Mizerak position (et.al.) play as they are left-handers...
You will be making it harder on yourself...
After being the youngest active player ever inducted into the hall of fame (like age 34-35 ish) Mike Sigel did in fact do the following videos back in 91/92ish...
- Run Out Straight Pool (runs roughly 100 plus balls while talking through it)
- Run Out 8-Ball (runs roughly some 10 racks while talking through it)
- Run Out 9-Ball (ditto)
- Perfect 8-Ball
- Perfect 9-Ball
- Perfect Straight Pool
All were produced by Joss Cues one of his sponsors...
The perfect * ... series was intended to be watched first; as he continually referred to them in the run-out * ... series...
The Joss-Sigel series was generally done in such a way IMHO that Mike Being a left-hander did not skew the info provided...
Unless an individual is genuinely ambidextrous I would avoid watching the Mizerak/Sigel and other great lefties actual matches for the purpose of gleaning position play tips, etc...
Lastly, if you have ever been slugged, or soft-breaked in 8-ball... and you do not want to play a marathon safety battle, waiting for the other guy to break up the rack and leave you a shot...
Take charge and Learn straight-pool break shots, strategy, etc., like Mike goes into great detail on in these videos...
Just remember, he is primarily giving preference to south-paw sides of the rack... so you have to invert those if you are a righty...
