I love the logic. In high school I knew quite a few people who would do things along these lines (happened to me once and only once): 1) borrow money from someone, promise to pay them back quickly 2) keep stalling and coming up with excuses not to pay the guy back 3) often buy and flaunt unnecessary stuff that was more expensive than the money owed 4) when the guy who was owed money for months kept bugging him about it and finally got upset, the guy who owed money would then say "well hey, if you're gonna act like that then no I won't pay you back, you don't deserve it!"
Stupid logic by stupid people. Your post reminded me of that. Kevin has owed me a cue or money for a while. I've tried contacting him. I've tried handling it privately. I've tried handling it like a mature adult. If he has issues that have resulted in him not being able to complete the cues on time, he has had a chance to rectify. Instead he has issues more promises that have not come true. He's also taken to ignoring many people. What he has not done is tried for one second to engage in anything resembling reasonable customer service. If he will ignore me I'll just speak louder.
For whatever reason, he has determined he simply does not want to issue refunds for his broken promises. Money already spent? Who knows.
But like others have said, apparently I need to try to get the law involved.

I have not personally heard from him since late March. All I want is a refund. But I think it's very telling when a cuemaker can be so late, and break so many promises, and still unwilling to do something so simple and standard in the business world.

If KV had a job and gave all of the excuses he has given as to why he can't ome to work, he would be fired or at least laid-off. The real world doesn't work on excuses. The only advantage he has right now is he has taken partial or full payment for his work. I would venture that he will not be able to complete his current obligations to his customers. He will simply run out of YOUR money. This along with the rep. he has established will spell his demise. No business built on the model he has displayed will survive.
Just be sure you issue him a 1099 with a copy to the IRS. This would be for the money he took from you but provided no merchandise in return. At least he will be forced to pay the taxes on the money he has taken. If you had given him a deposit or payment in full in the year 2007 you can now issue the 1099 and he will be req'd. to pay the taxes on this money.

As to the merit (and placement) of these threads...
While I admit that the drama within the threads gets to be a little overbearing, I, for one, appreciate the perspective. As someone who is planning to commission a cue, it gives me the kind of info that helps me determine whether I add or delete this cuemaker from my list of folks I'd do business with.
Pretty helpful aspect of any forum imo.

MI know that some of you guys feel ripped.... but my limited interaction with Mr. Varney gives me the gut feeling that you will all get your cues. Give the guy a break. I am sure you can live without your $350 for a while to help out a fellow billiards enthusiast. Give a guy a break when he most needs it and you will see the rewards.

Exactly! BillYards you are clearly an honorable man. I told everyone not too long ago that I've recently been to KV's and seen all the cues. The curly in mine is nuts! He'll produce all the cues I can't state that bold enough. A friend down on his luck and working hard but all the haters just want to bash. On the way home from a local tourny fri nite his shop lites were on at 2am.

You would have to be a complete moron to order a cue from kevin varney. You guys that hug his ***** act like this is a one time thing. Newsflash to you guys, it's not a new thing. This has been an on going problem for a long time. He is at fault whether you like it or not. Excuses do not make this right, nor did they any of the other times it has happened. the mods must really love KV because they keep deleting the past threads about the same problems. Banning him from AZ is the only acceptable action IMO.
get rid of the problem, not people's reaction to the problem. Anyone with a brain should be able to figure that out.
