So, a friend of mine called last week and said he was playing some 14.1 and wanted to play me some. I figured I'd set up the old camcorder and get some footage to see how I was getting around the balls....as luck would have it I caught a gear and hit a 92!

My camera is ancient VHS, but not terrible, and I have to get a small piece of editing equipment to convert it to digital hopefully by next week.

The table in my basement is a 9 foot GC-IV copy, 4-3/8" pockets, Simonis 860, Aramith super Pro balls, Schon cue with a Predator 314-2 shaft.

thanx for looking,

G.

Started thinking about hitting 100 didn't you?

92 is nothing to be ashamed of! Congratulations on such a high number.

I can't lie!...yea, I was thinking about it since my coin got to the side pocket! :). Also, my high run is 126, so that was in the mix too I guess.

Actually, After hitting 50 some, I wanted to get a good run on video to post up here for the list. The funny thing is up to this point I have been videoing one pocket to work on shots. This was the first time I tried to video 14.1.

92 on 4-3/8" pockets is a VERY nice run. I don't think I'll ever be able to do that. Congrats that you got it on tape. Hope to see it soon.

Looking forward to watching it. Thanks for video taping it. Wouldn't running 99 have sucked more? Or fouling on 100?

Gerry, I've never missed at 92. Of course I've never been to 92 :)

On a more serious note though, I thought I'd offer some good news / bad news advice, FWIW.

The good news is that the old analog camcorders actually have a benefit over the digital with respect to low light conditions. They do fair better in lower light reproductions that the digital variety.

The bad news, or the potentially bad news is that purchasing an analog to digital converter can and often does end in a penny wise, pound foolish choice.

Hopefully, a suggestion here can prevent that for you.

A good first choice would be a Canopus model 110. If money is not really an issue then the Canopus 300 is even better.

A good second choice, which is less expensive than either of the above is the ADS Pyro

These devices are both firewire transfer devices. This is very important for quality, trouble free transfers.

Stay away, STAY FAR AWAY from ANY USB based converter. Don't make the mistake of saving 50 or even 100 bucks on one of those junk converters just to end up with a ton of headaches.

What really sucks is your 92 beats my high run by 87:eek:
Do you think it would help my 14.1 game if I get one of them new fangled camcorders things?

Gerry,
Stop by the pool hall sometime and I'll teach you how to miss at 6, I do it all the time. ): I can also teach you how to miss short straight in shots and hangers. As a bonus I'll teach you how to scratch from anywhere on the table.
Pissin and Moaning about missing at 92 should be illegal. :) Just kidding, great run, hope to see you soon.

SUUUUPER RUN! When we play, I'm gonna have to run 5 at a time and send you down-town or something!! I better gear-up my practicing otherwise it'll be like my sessions with Shadow....fading barrage after barrage.

Congrats, I'm jealous.

NAH!...I don't wanna seem like I'm braggin!....I used to give my teacher s&$T when he complained about not running out 150 every game! I don't get north of 70 every day, so when I do, and DON'T get it done....it rubs me the wrong way.

I'd actually trade a 75 for someone that could help me load this friggin thing to youtube!

Nice run Gerry. Don't worry, we are all patiently awaiting your video. Also, if you post it on poolvids you can do 30 min video in one file. utube is only 15 min or something like that. again congrats....

I hear ya.

Here's a ture story. And by true, I mean ridiculously false, but so funny, you kind of want to believe it.

There's an older guy who plays in my local room. He's a little different. He often talks to himself. In fact, I think he's crazy. Aside from that, he's a helluva player.

Anyway, one day after shooting with him for several hours, I noticed that he was missing half of one of his fingers. I had never noticed it before so naturally, I was surprised. But being a man of good, sound manners, I thought it rude to ask. So I asked a middle man.

The story that I heard was that one day in his younger years, he was playing 14.1 and trying to run 100. According to the story, he reached 99 and then shot 100 (a REALLY easy shot) and rattled it. Word is, he got so pissed that he missed 100 that he bit down on his finger so hard he ripped half of it off!!!

Now, any rational human being would say "No way!". And the truth is, I know its prolly not true. But it sure is fun to believe!!!

what could suck more is missing such an opportunity to record your run :) Impressive, congratulations! Looking forward to watch the video.
