Your Cue Stick History?

Why do so many of you guys go through so many friggin' cues? Not a criticism, I just don't understand. Do you get tired of looking at the cue you have, or is it something else? I want to play with only one cue so that I learn how it hits as well as I can, and then stick with it.

Just curious.

Dufferin (black w/the stick guys) it was adopted from the owner at the hall I played @ had been sort of broken, glued and electrical taped back together

Viking (plain jain) bought for $50 bucks from a buddy long story but had been passed to him from his dad and later I passed to my bro

KC??? (fairly plain) bought for $150 from another buddy he bought it on line and didn"t like the hit....

side bar the first 3 cues all came from people that I played with on a pool team withc lead to a joke that I was collecting cues from all the players on the team

then

Poison VX (first verson now retired) ended up buying a pred Z2 shaft and still play with it every once and a while

j and j (jump break) retired the KC from breaking duty

predator sneaky pete (red venners) my main cue these days toss up between the 314 an Z shaft depends on whether I'm having a fat fingers day

I have 100+ cues, there is only 1 I will keep forever.......A Diveney 2012....Pat did me a solid on this cue and I will keep it forever...

Why so many

Good question..
There is no smart reply here. I will agree as so so many that it's not the cue it's the player, no doubt...
So why, well the simple answer is why not. I look at it like this, if I'm not under any real pressure of having to know the feel and play of my cue because of being as perfect as possible for high dollar action or big competioin why not try the field for a while and see if there really is a difference.

So over the past maybe 5 years I did just that. Now for the big question.... Did I find anything that's worth talking about..

So here's my 2 cents

Tip : I can tell you first that the tip is 70 percent of the hit as in initial impact feel. I prefer triangle tips, cheap and consistent. They allow you to feel the cue, layered tips tend to remove of the tonal hit of the cue.

Ferrule: Ivory is just great, stays clean but is a bit heavy on the ball. Can tend to throw the ball some but there just cool. The tenon design can produce a great ping tone.

Shafts: Dense heavy woods, straight grain no spots, parabolic like taper 12.9mm. Higher pitched tone

Pin: Brass produces a great tone

Joint material: ivory Is my personal preference, I think Tascarella makes the best piloted fit.

Overall weight: 19 ounces even

Forearm: Sharp points are great just because they show the talent and quality of the cue maker

Wrap: Smooth leather, Gina, Tascarella, Schick and Prewitt are really good. 2nd choice older Tads

Butt Cap: not really that important.

Overall, again this is just my opinion solely based on playability.. Ranked in order:
Schick
Tascarella
Prewitt
Tad (big pin)

Willie Mosconi 1985
Meucci MO-2 86 -96
Schon SL-14 96-99
Russ Espiritu 99-01

Predator P2 2010-2011
Meucci Original MO-1 2011-2012

Cues i've owned?

I've owned so many over the years i'll probably leave some out, but here are the ones that I remember:

Cues I don't own now, but wish I still owned:
Tim Scruggs - at least 8
South West - at least 6 with triple veneers and AB rings and boy would I love to have them back with the prices they are bringing now!
Joss West - 4
Joss - 2
Schon - too many to count
Josey - 2
Carmeli - 1
Bob Runde - 6
James White - 6 and one of them was his 3rd cue which was a beauty (8pt)
Paul Mottey - 7 at least
Ed Prewitt - 1 fancy cue that I just sold
Hurricane cues - at least 4 built by my friend James Spach
Pechauer - I had a couple of nice limited edition cues I bought on ebay that were nice cues.
Bender - I had one fancy cue I got in a trade
Cognoscenti - 1 fancy cue I bought on ebay that was beat to $@## and back and I had to refinish it to sell and get my money back. I've never seen a high dollar cue in that horrible condition. You'd have to of seen it to believe someone would treat a cue that nice so badly!

Cues I own now:
Paul Mottey - I have 2 now that I like a lot
Kenny Murrell - I have 1 that I really like and it's only been played twice

I'm sure I forgot some, but that's a close number.

James

Why? Because the NEXT cue will be THE one.

And I'll tell you something: the more I flip cues, the worse player I become.

My first cue was a cheap players cue, I then moved up to a Schon. After that I traded up for a Blackcreek. I then Traded the Blackcreek for a Sugartree. I then won a Scruggs SP in a raffle and that was my player. This year I traded my Sugartree for a Wrapless 4 point 4 veneer butterfly James White Hoppe cue. I then sold the Scruggs. I am very very happy with my cue progression and what Im playing with now. The JMW is the best player ive had....for now:)

Mine goes as follows:

Big-5 Spalding Birds Eye Maple - $20
McDermott Stained Blue Cue - $275
Schon Ltd Birds Eye Maple & Points - $450
Tim Scruggs Purpleheart Sneaky Pete (2 shafts) - $400
Local Custom Maker Larry Schave Cocobolo & Ebony/Curly Maple Points (30) - $400
Bob Frey Cocobolo Sneaky Pete (2 Shafts) - $400

Seems like every 2 years I get the itch to get a new cue.

my cue

I have a few cues but my favorite one is the one I built in 95. It is 61 and 1/2 inches

It is a 4 point, beautiful cue. It is a Patrick Custom Cue back before I went into automation integration and maintenance I made cues with my brother Doug. After I built 50 cues for him he let me build one for myself and it hits great and is extra long due to my arm span of 78 inches.

1 of my other cues is a Joss 4 point, 57 inch cue. It is about 20 years old and hits great as well.

I have a newer Patrick Custom cue 61 inches
and
A Huebler sneaky pete.

Mine was made by Stephan Janes at Joss Cues, It has been to Iraq,Kuwait*,Ireland,Germany , Alaska, Virgina, Massachusetts, S.Korea* and Georga

* Won Tournaments In Korea And Kuwait with strong feild.

Started with a cue international as my playing cue and a dufferin breaking cue. Then went to a Falcon cue with 314-2 and Falcon TNT-2 jump break, and added the predator air recently.

3. Currently I have a newer McDermott with an OB2 on it.

My first break cue was purchased around the sametime as my current McDermott.
