ScottR...Yes indeed! I certainly do feel lucky...lucky that Mark K decided to put a picture of my cue in a March '04 Billiards Digest article, which precipitated my "finding" my cue in his personal collection, later that same month at the Super Billiards Expo. It's been quite a trial to get it returned to the original owner (me), but I'm happy to say, it DID happen...sadly not without a 'show of force'.

Scott,

How does it work?....that you got it back?

Did you have to buy it back? He just gave it back?

I'd love to know the whole story. Amazing that it surfaced and found you!

What is your Favorite Pool Cue Case, and it CONFIGURATION (i.e. 2 x 2 with a Big & Little Pocket). What BRAND it is, why do you like it so much.

If you were going to buy another Case what would it configuration be? (i.e. 2 x 2, 3 x 6, 3 x 7, 3 x 5 with a Big & Little Pocket or One Large Pocket?)
My favorite case that my bud Tony Jones sent me from Thailand (great deal too)--Talisman 2x4 Tribal case. I love that I can put my cues together and stick them right back into the case (butt side down first) while I'm playing. The "slots" in the case are rubberized so your shaft and butt have maximum protection. It has 2 large pockets that are extremely roomy (which is important for me) and a teeny pocket which you can fit chalk, tips, or lip gloss! ;) I also like the little peg legs at the bottom of the case too. The case came inside a black satchel where I keep it so that it doesn't collect any dust or whatever, and I also received a free pack of Talisman Pro tips, and a bunch of Talisman towellets.

Everytime I walk around with this case, it not only attracts pool players, but non poolplayers as well. It shows excellent craftsmanship and the color that I have--reddish brown--only highlights the simple yet eye catching tribal designs. Here's a pic:

My favorite case is my own custom butterfly case. I made it for myself. Small, black with two pockets. It is lightweight but protective enough for me. I fabricated a special backpack strap for it for those few times when I need to carry it without worrying about it slipping off the shoulder. It's as small as a 1x2 yet I can hold three to four cues fairly easily in it.

Other than that if I had to rank cases I have owned then it would go like this.

Mass production:

1. Instroke
2. Porper
3. McDermott Soft Case

Custom

Tie between Jack Justis and Whitten.
Jay Flowers

Overall quality and protection: Instroke (kinda biased here) :-))

You're right about them being scarce...especially these days! When my Ginacue was stolen in 1991, it was in a 1x2 Centennial leather case. I recently got the cue returned to me (just yesterday). Unfortunately the case was not included. It did, however, come in a 1x3 Whitten case, custom made for Ginacue.

I like the Whitten cases. I have, or have had Whitten, Centennial, Fellini, George, Brunswick (old hard leather case), Porpor, Guiseppe, and Instroke cases over the years. My favorite is my current Instroke 6x12, all leather, which, even though it is a full-zippered soft case, provides plenty of protection, plus the large and small zippered pockets on the outside. I've only seen one other of these cases...ever! I don't think they made too many of them. Even with 6 butts and 9 shafts, it is MUCH lighter than the Instroke 3x7 hard cases (filled).

Hi Scott,

I have been looking for an Instroke 6X12 soft case. Could you tell me where you got it from? I have looked on ebay and online for sometime now. Would love to order one with my personal color scheme. Below is the one I saw online and the teal color could be pretty harsh looking in person. Could not tell and stayed clear as a result unfortunately! Any info would be appreciated in contacting Instroke to order one. Thanks!

I've got an instroke identical to the one you have pictured but mine is made out of a very supple, tan deerskin. Had another vynol instroke like that one but sold it years ago. My favorite case is a 2X4 leather "It's George" case.

I have 1x2 Jay Flowers case in my position!!
It is brand new, kept 25 years behind glass!!
Bought it from a German collector!

I also like the widowmaker cases, but they are a bit heavy!

I like to have lots of pocket space so my favorite is my Silverfox BR-2. I took the inside cue pockets out and put in hard tubes in the configuration I need at that time. Sometimes it's 2x3, sometimes it's 3x7. Lightweight, all the protection I feel I need and tons of storage space. It's also plain looking simple black and consequently goes under the radar of watchful thieves. Perfect for me.

If I were to get another case... silly me... when I get another case... I don't foresee myself getting anything other than a 2x4 with a couple of pockets. I will be getting another Jack Justis soon, to match my Gilbert Cue. And I have my eyes on that Jim Murnak. Looks like a good beginning for him.

Fred

Jack Justice Cases to me ARE FLASHY, and as I like to maintain a Low Profile :D I think Jim Murnak has some fine looking cases. Sure wish some of the owners of Jim Murnak Cases would post some photos of their Jim Murnak Cases.

Justice advertises you can replace the TUBE that hold Butts & Shafts? Is this a Big Advantage?

Jim made a great case for my friend that includes straps (backpack style) on the case which is cool, IMO.

Here is a pic of it (it's the "NAZ" black case) along with some others:

Hey there was no "show of force" you arrogant nit. It was the legal system and what had to be done. For those who want to know what transpired you can read about it on the Billiards Digest board search stolen cue. Where SL has had diarrea of the mouth, and even broke the court order to not discuss it afterwards. Because of this, he is damn lucky Mark didn't drag it out just to bust his hump, but because of it, Mark will be issuing his own statement very soon.

Aren't the Jack Justice cases the gawdiest pool cases on earth? You have to be part Italian to like thoses cases. I used to be married to an Italian wife and the minute I saw one of these cases I thought 'Italian'. :D

That's funny, and I agree. :p . I realize that some are over the edge but you have to make what ever the customer wants. That is what "custom made" is all about. Everyone has their own opinion on what they like and I try to meet that demand. I just wanted to let you and everyone else know that not all are "gaudy"and some are downright plain.

Best regards,
Jack

Welcome, Jack!

I prefer the plain look over the "overboard".... I think the plain case you attached above is very VERY nice... That is my taste, although I did really like the zebra case as well.

I would also like to say welcome Mr Justis. I gues I prefer the over stated such as Jay Flowers. I love the look of tooled leather.
