Ronnie is still feeling the after effects of his win from the WPC. His pool arm is tired from shaking the hands of too many sponsors and fans wanting to congratulate him the past couple of weeks.

My father (Yen) spoke to him a couple of days ago in a Philippine Airlines congratulatory visit. He relayed that his life has really changed since the win. He joked that even his wife rings his mobile phone a lot more often these days. ;)

Despite all the distractions, it is nice to see Ronnie trying to keep himself sharp in money games.

Is it ok to go One Side just to watch? Do they have a sort of lounge area?

There is a small lounge area with a few small tables. Also you can sit by the bar and see a couple of tables. Or you can just line up around the table and if you're lucky find a chair or stool to sit on. Otherwise, standing room only.

It can get tight in there. But if you are interested in seeing the best pool being played on the planet right now, it is worth it. I'm going back, I know that. Of course, for me it's only 14 hours down the road, by 747.

So I did go there last night. Before reading this post. Place was excellent. It was not really that packed last night (I guess). I think dynamite was the one who beat Ponga (long-haired guy) in an 8-ball set. Darren was playing with Gabica but I left when the score was about 12-10 (?) in favor of Darren. On the other table, Jeff de Luna was leading over Warren Kiamco 9-3 (9-ball) - excellent break (Jeff), I think he ran about 6 racks straight. Django and Luat were also there. I wish I was there the day before. Reminds me of the old Astrobowl in Magallanes, only better.

Okay, I'm getting warmed up for a return visit. Any special requests? I plan to go early to check out the qualifiers also. And I'll be at the WPC for the entire nine days this time.

Areneta Coliseum is the same stadium where Ali fought Frazier in "The Thrilla' In Manila". I think that was in 1974 (before my time :)).

^i think i will be there the entire 9 days too..im just cant decide now on what ticket i should buy :D

It should be interesting all the way, although the first three days are the Group stages. I like the way they are doing it this year, with DE in this stage.

Countdown to kickoff. I'm leaving on Sunday the 28th and arrive in Manila on Tuesday the 30th. You lose a day going that way, when you cross the International Date Line.

I will be there until Nov. 19th. I plan to send messages here as often as possible. My first goal is to check out the Qualifiers and see who's winning them. I hear the fields will be very strong this year. Who knows, I could play in one just for laughs. I used to be able to run a rack occasionally.

Mikaela is coming to the airport to pick me up at 5:30 AM. What a girl! And then it's off to Quezon City, where the Araneta Stadium is located. I can't wait to check out the venue. The heart of Pool on planet Earth is right there in Manila, nothing quite like it anywhere. In Manila, they live, eat and breath the game, just like most of us on here.

Shane won't believe the reception he will get there. They will roll out the red carpet for him, like he's royalty coming to visit. I hope he can keep his mind on ther task at hand. I'm not worried about him though. When he sees those Metro tables, his eyes will light up! They play as tough as the Diamonds.

Jay, have a GREAT TIME and enjoy yourself. Just don't get any pool lessons while you are there. At the DCC, I don't want to sail off to you any worse than I normally would. Smorgass Bored has me feeling like I should be accompanied by a pair of crutches and an eye patch.

When you see Ronato Alcano, just smile at him and say "EASY MONEY". That's what he did to me every time I missed. :-)

I do have a request though. I want you to bring back TWO FILIPINO CHAMPION'S pool secrets. They simply have to be something that is unique to that particular champion, no matter how eccentric the "secret" is. I also would like to know about any superstitions that they truly have a propensity toward. (Don't let them BS you. :D )

I personally would be interested in knowing more about some of the lessor known Filipino players like Gabica and Revo David. Maybe who are there sponsors and which stable they play out of, there best game and when they will be coming to the U.S. I would also like to know which cues/shafts they play with. How many of the Filipino players use Predator shafts?

OK, I have more than filled up my quota of questions. Don't expect you to get answers to everything but do what you can.

Best Regards and have a GREAT TIME.

Thanks Joey,

All good questions! I'll work on it. I can tell you one champion's pool secret right now. When Efren is struggling in a match, he will often change cues. He feels a new cue will bring his game back to normal. Not such a bad idea either.

Oh, you're not watching the Manny Pacquiao 9-Ball Open. You could probably answer all JoeyA's questions if you do. :D

Jay,
Wheels up in less than 24 hours. I'll see you in Manila in a couple weeks.

I'll try to drag David Thompson along.

That is something that Flyboy (Jimmy Spears) did on a regular basis, too.
Thanks,

JoeyA: I think Gabica is in the stable of Bugsy Promotions. Bugsy have 11 players I think, Ronato Alcano, Dennis Orcullo, Gabica, Jeffrey De Luna, Jharome Pena, Roberto Gomez (my favourite player), Joven Bustamante, Carlo, Buddy + some more that I can't beat.

Jay: I will arrive on the 30th too, but a little later in the morning.

I will try to post something here now and then too.

Only few days left: I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!
