Your shaft size?

Most of my Cues have 13mm Shafts, but my main playing Cues have 12.75mm Shafts and Moori III Mediums ...

Regardless of Shaft Size, it's really up to the Operator when it comes to pocketing balls and controlling cueball position (at least in MY case) ...

thats personal

Seriousely though i prefer 12.5 to 12.75, still havent gotten around to trimming down my new shcon

How many of you feel more accurate with a higher millimeter shaft?
I don't know if it's all in my head, but I just feel more in control and more accurate with a 13 than I do with a 12.75.

Why is it that a 13mm actually measures closer to 12.5?

Honest question...those w/ calipers, back me up on this!

i actually feel more like i'm guessing with a higher mm shaft. i can get comfortable with something 13mm or slightly more but i have to stick with it for a while

i've never noticed this. i'm not really sure what you mean

Shaft size

I play with 13.25mm shafts. First, I have big hands and it just seems to feel better. Second, I was brought up playing with old school cues, Palmer, Szamboti, that seemed to be just "bigger" and heavier. Third, over time, if for some reason I have to occasionally sand the shafts, they will stay a reasonable size. Fourth, I like a real stiff shaft (no pun intended).

Moon Cricket,

As good as you think you are, I would think that we would be asking you these questions ?

I mean that the "standard 13"mm shafts are actually 12.5s...

my 13mm shaft measures 13mm. where are you taking the measurement from? the base of the ferruel the top of the tip, base of the tip?

Measured @ ferrule top...w/ calipers.

11.75 Z2 shaft for me on regular cue, about 12.25 on break cue. I would prefer around 12.25 or so on the playing cue as well, but given the Predator options I had (314 at 12.75mm or Z at 11.75) the Z felt better.

Most of the advertised 13mm shafts that I have measured actually come closer to 12.75mm. I have measured quite a few and the majority seem to be 0.503-0.507in. (12.78-12.88mm)

I recently was having some work done and the local cuemaker asked what I currently played with, I informed him that it measured 0.498-0.501". He called this measurement 12 7/8mm, I replied, "isn't 0.500in. equal to 12.7mm?"

He answered, "Yea, but that's what they call it (12 7/8mm)".

I kept my mouth shut because in all reality I just know that I like its dimension and don't really care about some secret diameter system. If I get what I want I'm happy; I did, and I am.

The reason I like this diameter the best is that it is large enough to not feel loose in my bridge, and small enough that I can "see" around it.

I've tried tips over 13mm (actual measurement:calipers), and I just feel like I can't see around it for certian circumstances.

I've tried many tips under 12.5mm (actual measurement:calipers), and they just feel loose in my bridge hand; probably due mostly to me getting lazy on shots, but hey, I know I do that, and I want the extra comfort.

Years ago I had shafts made at 13.25 mm, conical taper so there stiff. I feel i'm more accurate with larger shafts. I have small hands but I don't like small and flexible straight taper shafts. Now mine are worn down to 13 mm. They feel a little small but the change has been so gradual it's not a problem yet.

I think it's more a matter of habit. If you used the smaller shaft for longer, it would start to feel normal and the 13mm stick would feel like a telephone pole. Whether a change would improve your game depends on a lot of things.
