Your thoughts on outrageous cue prices

Speaking for myself only. I’ve never cared what things cost. Makes zero difference to me. Cheap or expensive all the same.

What does matter is my ability to access things. So instead of spending time and energy looking to save a dollar, I’m gonna spend my time and energy on how to make $10. That way the price never matters.

That’s how I roll, it’s worked well so far

Fatboy😃

Actually, just bought a runde yesterday. A barnhart a month ago. A gilbert 4 months ago. All new. If I see a cue priced right I buy.
That is still a thing. Good cue prices still pop up all the time.

There are a lot of custom cue makers out there that give fair prices too. If you work with one enough they will give you even better prices on cues.

My main cuemaker treats me well because I treat him well. We have purchased a lot of cues from him (got another one in the works right now) and send as much business his way as possible.

It's all knowing where to look (generally that isnt AZ or Facebook MP) or being in the right place at the right time with the cash on you.

The outrageous prices are coming from the production sector of the industry. Custom cues command high prices because someone is spending all their attention building a complicated and ugly design that someone created. This isn't shocking news.

The shocking news are how expensive production cues are. 2k for production cues? LOL

I know many that have 3k full of production cues in their bag. Their shooter and those expensive jump and break cues. Decked out with a few carbon shafts from every big company. My goodness.

I suggest just buying a custom and call it a day. Save a lot more money.

The big cue companies do a great job marketing. Convincing players that deflection is the root of all evil and not using their 1k+ painted cue and carbon fibre shaft is whats holding their game back was just brilliant.

I think the big and even the newer emerging cue companies are doing a great job finding player representatives who actively endorse their products. It seems to me a crucial component being able to sell production woodware for such high prices... with demand!

Even a year ago a simple merry widow was 500 to 750 from many cuemakers. Now it's 1000 to 2000. Thats not inflation, it's gouging. People put up a 10 year joss on facebook for what a new one costs. I wanted to get a scruggs. I backed off. Not gonna pay those prices. Just saw a titleist conversion by tascarella for 4500. Not me. Not ever. What you think?
I think a lot of positive things are happening for our economy, but, the last 4 years we went crazy spending money we didn't have and that is going to be difficult to overcome in the short term, if we ever do it. I think what happened in 2008 is going to happen again soon and almost all the collectables markets will take a big hit. jmo

It seems like we have maybe hit a plateau for custom cue prices recently, given a few things:
Not including higher priced cues as they are even more of a buyer's niche. There are some nice cues out there for between $850 and $1000 (Crouch cues). Barnhart cues and shafts (actually all shafts, including wood going up given CF drove up prices unnecessarily?) have sure gone up also.

If the tariffs continue and wood stock on hand is low, prices could go up even more given the crazy always increasing wood prices...

If you are just playing pool, buy a Joss, Schon , Jacoby-spend $$ 500.00 to 1 K and enjoy the game.
If thats too much,
Buy a cuetec cynergy for about 600.00 and you're set for the rest of your life.
Joss limited series cues are currently priced at $267.75 on numerous web sites. Those cues are not on the Joss web site.

Good deal.

I’ve been doing pretty good with cues the last few months. It’s a matter of knowing what to buy and when to sell. I like to do deals, I’m not looking for max profit in every trade. I just like the action.

I always knew what to buy but too dumb to sell. Most of mine are production cues. Never used or hit a rack and stored. I might sell some this Summer. Could get back what I paid plus change but no big money. Maybe I’ll buy more cues with the proceeds. Nice cycle huh😂

After encouragement from someone here and some consideration I will just be purchasing an extra shaft for The Meucci that I have.
